Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity Decisioning)

Accountabilities:

• • Set the technical strategy for the team over a year-long horizon and connect that strategy to critical projects with meaningful business impact.
  • Partner with product management, design, analytics, and other engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are clearly understood and effectively managed.
  • Act as a force multiplier for the engineering team by defining, communicating, and advocating for scalable technical solutions and effective operational processes.
  • Own the team’s operational health and service availability by establishing appropriate monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing practices, alerting, and on-call processes.
  • Establish and promote high standards for code reviews, system design, engineering quality, and technical ownership within the team and across the broader engineering organization.
  • Communicate technical approaches and engineering standards through written documentation, technical discussions, and talks that help raise engineering quality across teams.
  • Support the growth and development of engineers through ongoing feedback, technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership by example.
  • Drive major technical initiatives, including the delivery of significant system components and the thoughtful deprecation of existing functionality through clear technical and execution plans.

  Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale, using technologies such as Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive experience building and operating highly available distributed systems, with hands-on experience in technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the technical definition and execution of major features, system components, architectural initiatives, or system deprecations.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of writing high-quality, maintainable code that is clear and reusable by other engineers.
  • Ability to work effectively across levels of abstraction, from understanding low-level language behavior and implementation details to designing and reasoning about large-scale system architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, incorporate, and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers to increase technical impact and effectiveness.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across a global engineering organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong ownership mindset and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments while balancing technical quality, delivery, reliability, and business priorities.
