The Role

We are looking for a visionary, hands-on Senior Staff Software Engineer to help define and lead the technical strategy for Coinbase's Data Platform. This is a foundational role at the intersection of distributed systems, data engineering, and AI-readiness.

You will report into the Senior Director of Engineering, Data Platform, and serve as the domain's top technical leader. This role operates with significant autonomy and is expected to have impact across multiple cross-functional teams and the broader Infrastructure organization.

What You'll Do

• Define and Drive Technical Strategy: Own the technical strategy and architecture for Data Platform, setting direction across data ingestion, transformation, and warehousing
• Set architectural direction and mentoring engineering talent
• Drive multi-quarter roadmaps and technical initiatives
• Shape how Coinbase evolves from managed data services into a true, scalable data platform
• Serve as a key voice in the broader Infrastructure organization

Work Environment

While this is a remote-first role, in-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.
