Director, Product Manager - Tax
About the role
Job Summary:
We're looking for a Director of Product Management to own the end-to-end tax experience for clients, tax managers, and advisors at Mercer Advisors, using AI-powered technology for tax preparation and tax planning. You'll own the product vision, strategy, and execution.
Tax is a core part of the family office Mercer Advisors delivers to clients. You'll be a key member of our tax service transformation, translating business needs into product capabilities that drive measurable impact for clients, tax managers, and advisors.
This is a fully remote position with a strong preference for candidates in the San Francisco bay area.
Essential Job Functions for this role include:
Lead the Product
• Own the tax product roadmap from discovery through delivery, covering the full client journey from document intake to filed return and tax planning
• Lead transformational change while our teams continue to deliver high-quality tax services to clients
Lead a Cross-Functional Pod
• Partner daily with engineering, design, data, and tax leadership
• Run agile ceremonies and ensure your pod has what they need to deliver
• Coordinate across Technology, Tax, Wealth Management, and Operations teams
• Manage relationships with external partners, including tax preparation software vendors
Shape the AI-Powered Tax Transformation
• Set direction for a suite of AI agents that work alongside our tax preparation software
• Decide what to automate next and where tax managers stay in the loop
• Own a rigorous eval process to measure accuracy and quality of AI outputs
• Use AI to make yourself and your team more effective at building
Integrate Tax into the Whole
• Make our AI-powered tax solution a first-class member of the Mercer Advisors technology stack
• Ensure clients and advisors experience tax as part of one connected family office, not a separate tool
• Build on shared Mercer Advisors platform capabilities instead of standing up one-off tax tools
• Partner with security and compliance to protect sensitive client tax data
Drive Outcomes
• Raise the bar on our product culture of delivering impact, not features
• Define success metrics and track progress against them
• Continuously improve based on usage data and feedback from tax managers, advisors, and clients
• Communicate results, impact, and decisions to stakeholders and executive leadership
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience
• 7+ years in product management, with a track record of delivering measurable impact
• Track record of using AI to solve real business problems
• Experience shipping products in domains where accuracy and compliance matter
• Experience working in or leading cross-functional pods (engineering, design, data)
Skills
• Strong ability to translate complex business processes into clear product requirements
• Familiarity with LLM evaluation and human-in-the-loop design
• Data fluency: you can define metrics, interpret dashboards, and make decisions from data
• Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences
Mindset
• Bias toward action while delivering great products
• Comfortable with ambiguity and leading change in a live operating business
• User-obsessed: you start with the needs of clients, tax managers, and advisors and work backward
