About the role
Accountabilities:
- Lead client discovery sessions and requirements-gathering activities to understand payroll processes, business rules, challenges, and desired outcomes.
- Translate business requirements into effective Workday Payroll configurations aligned with client needs and established best practices.
- Configure payroll solutions and provide functional guidance throughout the implementation lifecycle, from discovery through deployment.
- Partner with data conversion teams to support accurate migration and validation of legacy payroll information.
- Support end-to-end, parallel, and other testing activities to validate payroll configurations, calculations, system performance, and operational accuracy.
- Serve as a payroll subject matter expert, advising clients and project stakeholders on configuration decisions, payroll processes, and system functionality.
- Communicate project status, risks, issues, dependencies, and key decisions clearly to client leadership and internal stakeholders.
- Support client training, knowledge transfer, and post-implementation readiness so users can confidently manage their payroll environment after go-live.
- Mentor junior consultants and contribute to internal knowledge sharing, methodologies, and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for additional services, enhancements, and optimization initiatives that support client objectives and long-term payroll success.
- 3+ years of experience in Workday Payroll implementation, consulting, or systems configuration, with a strong focus on payroll solutions.
- Workday Payroll certification is required.
- Demonstrated experience gathering, documenting, and translating business requirements into effective payroll configurations.
- Previous experience working in a consulting or professional services environment.
- Strong functional understanding of payroll operations and system logic, including payroll calculations, tax rules, deductions, and reporting.
- Experience with major payroll or HCM platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Oracle, SAP, or Paychex is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll and technology concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience developing training materials and facilitating client workshops is a plus.
- Familiarity with integration concepts, Excel-based tools, testing methodologies, and payroll data conversion practices is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and client relationship skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a project-driven environment.
