About the role
Accountabilities:
- Lead clinical excellence across a region by building a patient-centered culture focused on team-based care, value-based outcomes, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes, care experience and engagement, quality performance, disease management, utilization, and population health across multiple geographies.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen coordination with specialists, hospitals, community organizations, and other high-quality care partners to better meet patient needs.
- Maintain approximately 10% clinical practice within the home market to remain connected to patient needs, clinical teams, and the realities of frontline care delivery.
- Lead, coach, and develop regional clinical leaders, strengthening capabilities in value-based care, team leadership, clinical excellence, and performance management.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of high-quality primary care clinicians while helping maintain appropriate staffing levels across markets.
- Partner closely with the Regional Market President as a clinical leadership dyad, aligning patient-first decision-making with operational performance, growth, clinical quality, and business objectives.
- Collaborate with regional leaders and shared-service teams to improve operations, patient care, outcomes, market expansion, acquisitions, patient growth, and clinical integration.
- Lead assigned national clinical priorities in areas such as care model development, clinical operations, quality, clinical excellence, technology enablement, and analytics.
- Represent the organization's clinical perspective through research, publications, speaking engagements, talent development initiatives, and relationships with leading training programs and institutions.
- Identify opportunities to leverage broader enterprise capabilities and programs to improve care delivery, patient outcomes, clinician effectiveness, and organizational performance.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited university and medical program.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing physician, combined with at least 5 years of strategic clinical leadership experience at a regional or national level.
- Active Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine, maintained throughout employment.
- Current, unrestricted medical license in applicable states, with willingness and ability to obtain additional state licenses as required.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple clinical teams across geographies and programs, preferably within medical group, ambulatory care, or similar primary care environments.
- Strong expertise in value-based care, particularly Medicare Advantage, including familiarity with HEDIS/STARS, medical risk adjustment, clinical programming, quality management, utilization management, network management, and payment models such as capitation, partial risk, or direct contracting.
- Proven track record of implementing clinician-led strategies that improve patient outcomes, clinical quality, operational performance, and population health.
- Deep understanding of team-based primary care models and a demonstrated ability to attract, develop, coach, and retain high-quality clinical leaders and physicians.
- Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and demonstrated success leading change initiatives with measurable impact.
- Experience with multi-site clinic start-ups, market development, or expansion is preferred.
- Strong commitment to serving high-risk senior populations and understanding the clinical and community needs of the patients served.
- Ability to operate effectively in a complex, geographically distributed environment while building strong partnerships with executives, clinicians, and cross-functional leaders.
- Willingness to travel periodically, up to approximately 40% or less, to support regional and national teams.
- Fully remote position with the expectation of occasional travel to company offices for meetings or training.
- Approximately 40 hours per week, with a leadership role spanning multiple regional markets.
