About the role
What We’re Looking For
We're looking for a VP of Marketing & Communications who is equal parts strategic and hands-on, deeply curious about consumer behavior, and energized by building something that matters. You're a storyteller at heart with the operational discipline to back it up — someone who can set the vision and roll up their sleeves to execute it.
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Thrives in a high-growth, early-stage environment where the playbook is still being written and ambiguity is an opportunity, not an obstacle
- Takes full ownership of brand and communications — from strategy through to execution — without waiting for direction
- Collaborates naturally across Product, Growth, Retail Partnerships, and Operations to ensure brand shows up consistently across every touchpoint
- Balances the urgency of a fast-moving startup with the discipline to build a brand that compounds over time
- Is genuinely motivated by Flashfood's mission to reduce food waste and make good food more accessible — and knows how to translate that mission into narratives that resonate with consumers, partners, and press alike
What You’ll Do
- Own Flashfood's brand strategy end-to-end — defining how we show up in the world, what we stand for, and how that identity evolves as the company grows
- Lead all external communications including media relations, press strategy, executive thought leadership, and corporate announcements
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media contacts across consumer, trade, and tech verticals
- Drive proactive and reactive PR — crafting narratives that keep Flashfood top of mind and managing the company's reputation with confidence
- Develop and execute integrated brand campaigns from concept through to launch, ensuring creative consistency across every channel and audience
- Own the creative process — briefing, directing, and reviewing work from internal contributors and external agencies, designers, and production partners
- Set and maintain Flashfood's brand voice, visual identity, and messaging framework, ensuring consistency across all consumer and partner-facing materials
- Lead storytelling around Flashfood's mission — food waste reduction, affordability, and community impact — in ways that resonate with shoppers, retail partners, and the public
- Oversee the development of content that brings the brand to life across social, owned channels, and partnerships — with a focus on brand expression rather than performance
- Partner with Retail and Partnership teams to develop co-branded and partner communications that elevate Flashfood while supporting partner goals
- Build and lead a high-performing brand and communications team, including hiring, developing, and managing both internal staff and external agency relationships
- Serve as a communications advisor to the executive
