About the role
Accountabilities
- Lead discovery and experience strategy for complex public website redesign and CMS migration initiatives, ensuring the transformation is not treated as a simple page-for-page migration.
- Assess existing websites across content, information architecture, navigation, templates, functionality, and member journeys, identifying opportunities to retain, improve, consolidate, redesign, or retire experiences.
- Define the target website experience and establish clear UX principles to guide design and migration decisions.
- Facilitate discovery workshops and decision-making sessions with executives, marketing, digital, technology, business, and other stakeholders.
- Lead information architecture, navigation, taxonomy, content hierarchy, and content-structure initiatives.
- Partner with content and digital teams on website audits, content prioritization, migration decisions, content models, and scalable page structures.
- Design intuitive pathways to financial products, services, rates, calculators, educational resources, branch and ATM information, support, and account-opening experiences.
- Incorporate SEO, findability, accessibility, and content-authoring requirements into the overall website experience.
- Map priority member journeys that begin on the public website and continue into account opening, digital banking, or third-party platforms.
- Identify friction, gaps, and inconsistencies across connected digital experiences and recommend improvements.
- Develop personas, journey maps, service blueprints, and other UX artifacts when they support better strategic decisions.
- Translate business objectives into measurable outcomes such as conversion, digital adoption, task completion, accessibility, qualified leads, and member satisfaction.
- Use research, analytics, usability testing, and other evidence to validate UX recommendations.
- Create sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed interaction specifications.
- Define or evolve design systems and reusable CMS component libraries that balance member needs, brand consistency, accessibility, and author flexibility.
- Collaborate closely with technical and front-end teams to ensure proposed experiences are feasible within the selected CMS and maintain design quality throughout implementation.
- Review implemented pages and components, identify experience gaps, and support remediation ahead of launch.
- Present research findings, UX recommendations, and design decisions to senior stakeholders and explain complex design choices in practical business terms.
- Help position the public website as an important component of a broader digital transformation initiative.
- 8+ years of professional experience in UX, website design, digital experience, information architecture, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, content-rich public website redesigns and/or CMS migration projects.
- Portfolio demonstrating substantial public website work, including information architecture, navigation, content strategy, wireframes, responsive design, and user flows.
- Proven ability to conduct website and content audits and make evidence-based decisions about what should be retained, redesigned, consolidated, or retired.
- Strong understanding of CMS-driven experiences, content models, templates, reusable components, and content-authoring requirements.
- Experience creating or evolving website design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Strong knowledge of responsive design principles and WCAG accessibility requirements.
- Working knowledge of SEO, website analytics, conversion optimization, and usability testing.
- Strong workshop facilitation, presentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and detailed design levels.
- Comfortable collaborating directly with executives, marketing leaders, digital teams, business stakeholders, compliance teams, and technical delivery teams.
- Experience connecting public website journeys with account opening, digital banking, applications, financial products, or other digital services.
- Must be based in Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Experience in credit unions, banking, insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
- Experience with financial-services websites involving products, rates, calculators, applications, account opening, or authenticated banking is an advantage.
- Experience migrating websites from OpenText or another enterprise CMS is preferred.
- Familiarity with content governance, migration planning, authoring workflows, and analytics frameworks is beneficial.
- Candidates should have substantial public website, information architecture, content strategy, and CMS migration experience; application or SaaS product-design experience alone is not sufficient.
- Contract engagement with compensation of $70–$100 per hour, depending on experience.
- Fully remote opportunity for professionals based in Canada.
- Opportunity to lead a high-impact public website transformation within the financial services and credit union sector.
- Strategic exposure to senior executives, marketing, digital, technology, business, and compliance stakeholders.
- Opportunity to influence information architecture, content strategy, design systems, accessibility, and end-to-end member experiences.
- Hands-on involvement across discovery, strategy, design, CMS migration, implementation, and launch.
- Opportunity to work on complex digital transformation initiatives with measurable business and member-experience outcomes.
