About the role

Accountabilities

    • Own the evolution of the Payments product end to end, covering payment rails such as ACH, PAD, and cards, as well as ledger and settlement infrastructure, payouts, reconciliation, payment methods, tokenisation, fraud and risk controls, reporting, and compliance.
    • Identify, assess, and prioritise high-impact opportunities, defining clear hypotheses, expected outcomes, and appropriately sized time budgets before development begins.
    • Make decisive scope and prioritisation trade-offs, distinguishing must-have requirements from lower-value enhancements and owning those decisions throughout delivery.
    • Work as a peer builder within a cross-functional product pod alongside engineers and a designer, providing clear product direction and making timely decisions when ambiguity arises.
    • Ship usable solutions to real customers early, gather direct feedback, and rapidly iterate based on evidence rather than attachment to the original plan.
    • Build deep customer understanding by speaking directly with businesses about invoicing, payment collection, reconciliation, and the operational friction they experience.
    • Drive payment volume, adoption, activation, and utilisation by combining quantitative data with customer feedback to identify and remove barriers to growth.
    • Own the post-launch product lifecycle, monitoring adoption and business outcomes and driving improvements whenever solutions fail to deliver their intended impact.
    • Balance speed with financial and operational risk, identifying which changes can be released safely through controlled rollouts and which require more rigorous validation.
    • Improve the reliability, scalability, compliance, and performance of global payment infrastructure in partnership with external payment providers.
    • Use AI tools throughout the product development lifecycle to accelerate research, data exploration, prototyping, documentation, and synthesis of complex information.
    • Define success metrics and evaluate the quality of product decisions through learning speed, cycle time, iteration, prioritisation accuracy, adoption, and measurable business outcomes.
    • Collaborate with Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Support, Risk, and other teams to ensure new payment capabilities are understood, supported, and successfully adopted.
    • Requirements:

      • 7+ years of product management experience, including at least 3 years working directly in payments or fintech.
      • Demonstrated ownership of money-movement products or infrastructure, with hands-on understanding of payment rails, authorisation, settlement, ledgers, transaction processing, or related systems.
      • Strong technical fluency across payment infrastructure, including providers such as Stripe, Adyen, Plaid, or comparable platforms.
      • Deep understanding of payment failure modes and operational considerations such as reconciliation discrepancies, settlement timing, chargebacks, retries, idempotency, and partial failures.
      • Proven ability to deliver highly available financial systems while balancing compliance, risk, reliability, and customer experience.
      • Strong technical depth, including the ability to read code, reason about system architecture, understand technical trade-offs, and work with engineers as a peer.
      • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, or comparable solutions as part of your everyday product workflow.
      • Ability to define and evaluate quality for AI-assisted or non-deterministic product experiences, including establishing test sets and validating outcomes against real customer use cases.
      • Demonstrated habit of using data, experimentation, and customer insight to prioritise opportunities and measure product impact.
      • Strong customer empathy and the ability to translate qualitative and quantitative signals into clear, actionable product decisions.
      • Excellent ability to structure ambiguous problems, make difficult trade-offs, and align technical and non-technical stakeholders around priorities.
      • Clear, concise communication skills and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
      • Experience with multi-currency, multi-entity, or cross-border payments is highly desirable.
      • Exposure to regulated payments environments, including AUSTRAC, KYC/AML programs, or PCI scope reduction, is an advantage.
      • Knowledge of accounting or practice-management platforms such as QuickBooks Online or Xero is a plus.
      • A willingness to contribute hands-on when useful, including prototyping, fixing small issues, or submitting code changes, is welcomed but not required.
      • Benefits:

        • Hybrid working model for candidates based in Sydney, combining the flexibility of working from home with access to a shared workspace.
        • Opportunity to take ownership of a critical payments product with direct influence over product strategy, customer outcomes, and business growth.
        • High degree of autonomy and decision-making authority within a focused product pod.
        • Modern AI-enabled product development environment designed to accelerate experimentation, delivery, and learning.
        • Opportunity to work closely with experienced engineers, designers, product leaders, and cross-functional teams.
        • Fast product development cycles focused on shipping, learning, and measurable outcomes rather than unnecessary process.
        • Opportunity to work on payment infrastructure involving real financial transactions, global payment capabilities, risk, compliance, and reliability.
        • Inclusive culture built around continuous improvement, low ego, collaboration, and strong customer focus.
        • Supportive approach to accessibility and accommodations throughout the recruitment process.
        • Opportunity to work within a globally distributed organisation spanning multiple international markets.
