About the role
Accountabilities:
- Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, visualizations, DAX measures, drill paths, and reporting logic for enterprise decision-making.
- Lead the administration and governance of the Power BI environment, including workspace management, security, deployment pipelines, platform configuration, Row-Level Security, Microsoft Entra ID integration, and data access controls.
- Configure and maintain On-Premises Data Gateways while developing a scalable self-service BI model supported by governance frameworks, documentation, and training materials.
- Migrate and enhance existing reporting solutions, including Tableau dashboards, and support integration and embedding within enterprise business applications.
- Administer and support SQL Server environments, including advanced query development, data modeling, query optimization, performance tuning, backups, and other database administration activities.
- Develop complex SQL using CTEs, joins, and performance analysis techniques to support reliable enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Build automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate and Power Platform, while developing PowerShell scripts and API-based solutions to reduce manual administrative work.
- Analyze and troubleshoot Power BI, database, modeling, calculation, and performance issues across environments.
- Establish development, documentation, and delivery standards to improve consistency, scalability, and quality across BI initiatives.
- Mentor junior BI team members in DAX, data modeling, dashboard development, Power BI best practices, and technical standards.
- Work with data from systems including Deltek Vantagepoint, Jira, Aconex, SharePoint, SQL Server, Excel, work management platforms, and AutoCAD.
- Partner with executives, project managers, operations leaders, and other stakeholders to communicate data findings clearly and translate business needs into effective analytics solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in Power BI development, platform administration, business intelligence, database administration, or a related data-focused role.
- Proven experience building and establishing Power BI environments from the ground up, including governance frameworks, naming standards, workspace configuration, security, and deployment pipelines.
- Strong expertise in Power BI, DAX, data modeling, dashboard development, visualization design, and performance optimization.
- Experience migrating Tableau dashboards and reporting solutions to Power BI.
- Advanced SQL skills, including CTEs, complex joins, query optimization, performance tuning, and data modeling.
- Strong SQL Server experience covering database support, query development, architecture, and performance management.
- Experience with On-Premises Data Gateways, Microsoft Power Automate, and Microsoft Power Platform.
- Knowledge of database administration concepts such as backups, high availability, disaster recovery, and replication.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, PowerShell, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines is preferred.
- Experience with Python and Pandas for data preparation and familiarity with Microsoft Fabric are advantageous.
- Experience integrating with Deltek Vantagepoint is a plus.
- Power BI Data Analyst Associate certification (PL-300) is preferred.
- Background in engineering, utilities, industrial services, or a similar environment is advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring technical team members and establishing development and documentation standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and data insights to non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to take ownership of enterprise-level initiatives.
- Annual salary of $95,000–$125,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
- Fully remote position within the United States.
