Sr. Engineering Manager, Cards

Accountabilities:

• • Lead, hire, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team through regular one-to-ones, feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Own delivery of scalable, secure, reliable services and ensure engineering initiatives align with business priorities and long-term platform strategy.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including technical planning, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Guide the design and evolution of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and integration patterns addressing complex computing challenges.
  • Review functional and technical designs, business requirements, timelines, risks, and architectural decisions, providing strong technical guidance.
  • Establish and maintain high engineering standards across code quality, testing, performance, resilience, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Drive robust unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies and ensure production services are effectively monitored against SLOs and SLAs.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues and lead incident management, on-call practices, and critical problem resolution.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks related to reliability, performance, scalability, and technical debt.
  • Partner with product, business, architecture, and other engineering stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions and prioritize strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to architectural and technology discussions, proof-of-concept activities, innovation initiatives, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote the use of emerging technologies, including Generative AI tools, to improve engineering productivity, efficiency, and decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with international teams, senior leadership, and both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, autonomy, and technical excellence while providing leadership during complex or high-impact situations.

  Requirements:

  • Based in Brazil and able to work effectively with global teams.
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 11+ years of relevant experience without a degree requirement.
  • Professional English proficiency at B2 level or above.
  • Experience within the financial services, payments, or authorization systems industry.
  • Hands-on experience with card issuing solutions and card-payment ecosystems.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 8583 messaging systems.
  • Proven experience leading software engineering teams in production environments.
  • Strong background designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and microservices in cloud environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues across distributed systems and high-availability environments.
  • Strong understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and cloud-native architectures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, logging, tracing, and modern software engineering practices.
  • Ability to contribute to architectural decisions and guide teams through system design and technical evolution.
  • Demonstrated experience with hiring, coaching, performance management, and people development.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and engineering management practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership capabilities, with the autonomy to operate effectively in complex and high-impact situations.
  • Experience with mission-critical systems, large-scale distributed environments, and high-availability platforms is highly valued.
  • Experience integrating Generative AI or other emerging technologies into engineering workflows is a plus.
