The Virtual Technology Manager (VTM) serves as the strategic execution and operational orchestration partner for clients operating in highly regulated financial services environments, including hedge funds, private equity firms, RIAs, asset managers, and family offices. This role sits at the intersection of technology strategy, operational execution, cybersecurity, infrastructure modernization, cloud services, AI enablement, and service lifecycle management. The VTM works closely with client stakeholders and internal Abacus teams to transform strategic priorities into operational reality by coordinating execution, driving technology adoption, improving operational maturity, and reducing risk across complex client environments. Operating as a trusted technology advisor, the VTM helps align technology decisions to business outcomes while orchestrating delivery across engineering, security, professional services, operations, AI, and client experience teams. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth, operational leadership, executive communication skills, and the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple stakeholders and technologies. This role is ideal for someone looking to move beyond traditional infrastructure management and play a meaningful role in the modernization of technology operations within regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary operational technology partner for assigned financial services clients, helping align infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, operational platforms, and emerging technologies to business objectives
- Translate strategic priorities into coordinated execution across internal teams, vendors, and client stakeholders
- Help clients operationalize technology initiatives within regulated environments by supporting infrastructure planning, governance alignment, security, operational readiness, modernization, and adoption
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery efforts across engineering, security, infrastructure, AI, professional services, operations, and client experience teams
- Guide clients through modernization initiatives involving cloud platforms, cybersecurity, identity and access management, infrastructure lifecycle management, automation, collaboration platforms, and operational tooling
- Support clients in evaluating and operationalizing emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, in a secure, governed, and scalable manner
- Identify opportunities to improve operational maturity, resiliency, scalability, governance, automation, and long-term technology effectiveness
- Proactively identify operational risks, technical debt, recurring issues, and service gaps while driving continuous improvement initiatives
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong experience supporting financial services organizations within a managed services, consulting, or enterprise technology environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and executive stakeholders
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and operational service delivery
- Experience coordinating complex technical initiatives across multiple teams and vendors
- Familiarity with regulated environments and compliance-driven operational models
- Strong organizational, communication, and client relationship skills
- Ability to operate independently while driving accountability across matrixed teams
- Interest in AI, automation, and emerging operational technologies
