About the role
Accountabilities
Build, maintain, and operate production backend services using Python and Node.js/NestJS.
Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
Work extensively with PostgreSQL, including schema design, complex queries, indexing, connection management, and performance optimization.
Build and support asynchronous workflows using message queues and distributed systems patterns.
Apply appropriate caching strategies across application and data layers, balancing performance, consistency, and cache invalidation requirements.
Own features and integrations throughout the full software development lifecycle, including development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and iteration.
Containerize and deploy applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Monitor production environments using logs, metrics, dashboards, and observability tools to identify reliability, throughput, and performance issues.
Diagnose and resolve production incidents involving APIs, integrations, queues, databases, and multi-service workflows.
Apply secure development practices covering authentication, authorization, secrets management, injection risks, and protection of sensitive data.
Collaborate with senior engineers on technical designs and architecture decisions while progressively taking ownership of components.
Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, code quality, engineering processes, and overall system design.
Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Security, Product, Customer Success, and other teams as the platform evolves.
Contribute to data pipelines and related initiatives where applicable, including failure handling, backfills, and data-quality improvements.
2–5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production software.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Production experience with both Python and Node.js/NestJS, with strong production-level depth in at least one of these technologies.
Experience building production-grade APIs, microservices, or backend systems and supporting them through deployment and ongoing operation.
Strong SQL fundamentals and hands-on experience with relational databases, particularly complex queries, indexing, schema design, and production performance troubleshooting.
Experience designing and maintaining REST APIs, rather than only consuming them.
Experience integrating external systems, with an understanding of retries, duplicate processing, unreliable dependencies, failure handling, and recovery.
Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including asynchronous processing, message queues, consistency, retries, and failure recovery.
Experience with message queue or asynchronous processing technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or equivalent.
Experience with Redis or another caching technology and an understanding of caching strategies and invalidation.
Experience with Azure or another major cloud platform, including deploying and troubleshooting applications with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with Git and modern code review practices.
Understanding of secure coding fundamentals, including authentication, authorization, secrets handling, injection risks, and data exposure.
Experience operating production systems beyond writing code, including monitoring metrics, investigating performance problems, responding to incidents, and improving systems after failures.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to document decisions, explain technical tradeoffs, write clear pull requests and design notes, and raise blockers proactively.
Collaborative and curious approach, with a willingness to ask questions, contribute ideas, receive feedback, and work across technical boundaries.
Experience with data pipelines, warehouse or lakehouse modeling, dbt, ETL/ELT, Airflow, Flink, or similar technologies is a plus.
Familiarity with BI and visualization platforms such as Metabase, Apache Superset, or equivalent is advantageous.
Experience with multi-region or geographically distributed systems is a plus.
Experience in logistics, warehouse management, robotics, or other physical-world technology environments is advantageous.
Exposure to AI-assisted software development, GenAI code validation, or engineering guardrails is a plus.
Fully remote position based in India.
