Shopify Senior Backend Engineer / Java - (Spring Boot 3) (GCP / Azure / AWS) - remote in EU

The Opportunity

Shape the core of our platform as a Shopify Senior Backend Engineer. This isn't a maintenance role—you'll take ownership of new features from concept to deployment, tackling complex challenges in platform scalability and ensuring speed and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy robust, scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot 3 on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Take full ownership of the entire development lifecycle for new platform features, from technical design and requirement clarification to testing and deployment
• Dive deep into business logic, tackle challenging API integrations for Shopify, and build solutions that provide real value to customers in accounting and e-commerce
• Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production environments to ensure platform performance and reliability
• Participate in code reviews, share knowledge with the team, and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend development with strong command of Java and Spring Boot framework
• Experience with AI Coding Tools and willingness to drive AI adoption in development processes
• Structured mindset for breaking down complex problems and designing clean, well-architected solutions
• Deep experience designing and consuming Shopify GraphQL APIs, including complex third-party integrations
• Hands-on experience building and deploying applications on cloud platforms, preferably GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, PubSub, etc.)
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with comfort navigating ambiguity
• Strong collaboration skills with experience using Git, continuous deployment pipelines (GitLab), and agile practices
