About the role
Accountabilities
- Review game design documentation and ensure proposed features include clear, intuitive player feedback aligned with the overall UI vision.
- Create UX documentation, specifications, reference materials, and guidelines that support efficient implementation by UI teams.
- Define and maintain cohesive UX standards covering typography, layouts, accessibility, navigation, feedback, and universal control schemes.
- Collaborate closely with UI, game design, art, and engineering teams throughout implementation to ensure experiences are polished, understandable, and consistent.
- Support UI playtesting by helping establish testing criteria, reviewing player feedback, and translating findings into actionable improvements.
- Identify areas of player confusion and provide UX recommendations to Systems, Content, UI, and design leadership.
- Build and iterate on rapid UI prototypes within the game engine and fine-tune UI behavior, tutorials, controls, and text content.
- Apply accessibility principles throughout the design and implementation process to create more inclusive player experiences.
- Share UX knowledge, standards, and best practices across projects and teams while supporting continuous improvement.
- 7+ years of professional experience in game UI/UX design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating shipped work.
- Proven experience designing and implementing UX for video games, including experience shipping at least one AAA title.
- Strong understanding of modern game UX, including player flows, menus, HUDs, control mapping, tutorials, and player feedback systems.
- Experience working with Unreal Engine and a preference for candidates familiar with Unreal technology and UMG.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with UX, UI art, UI engineering, game design, systems, and content teams.
- Excellent documentation, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to remain focused, self-motivated, and accountable while working toward project goals.
- Practical understanding of accessibility standards and best practices for game interfaces.
- Experience with gamepad, keyboard, and mouse interfaces, particularly for modern shooter experiences, is highly valuable.
- Additional experience with co-op or online multiplayer games, console certification and shipping processes, or mentoring junior and intermediate designers is advantageous.
- Fluency in French is a plus.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada without requiring current or future employer sponsorship.
