About the role

Accountabilities

    • Own platform and device infrastructure: Design and operate the systems supporting an embedded Linux kiosk fleet, including device configuration, build and signing processes, over-the-air updates, rollouts, rollbacks, recovery mechanisms, and operational tooling.
    • Lead CI/CD and release engineering: Build and maintain deployment control systems with test gates, controlled approvals, release promotion, traceability, and reversible deployments across cloud and device software.
    • Drive reliability and observability: Establish strong standards for monitoring, alerting, backup and recovery, auditability, security, and production reliability, while building automation that makes safe operational practices the default.
    • Operate cloud infrastructure: Support reliable, secure, and reproducible AWS environments using infrastructure-as-code, with an emphasis on production availability and engineering enablement.
    • Enable developer self-service: Create golden paths, internal tooling, and self-service capabilities that allow engineers to deploy independently while providing technical guidance for complex build and deployment challenges.
    • Build production-grade software: Design, develop, test, and maintain platform services and tooling using the same engineering standards expected of customer-facing product code.
    • Automate regulatory compliance: Translate regulatory and safety requirements into tested engineering workflows covering traceability, software bill of materials (SBOM), artifact signing, audit trails, and pipeline and device security.
    • Partner across technical and business functions: Serve as the platform infrastructure technical lead for Product, Clinical, Regulatory, InfoSec, and Engineering, supporting clinical studies and regulatory submissions where needed.
    • Support data and ML platforms: Enable data-science teams with reproducible environments, scalable compute, reliable model-serving infrastructure, and related platform capabilities.
    • Improve platform strategy continuously: Identify opportunities to make infrastructure more scalable, secure, reliable, and developer-friendly while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety.
    • Requirements

      • Senior platform engineering experience: 8+ years in platform, DevOps, infrastructure, or related engineering roles, including significant ownership of production CI/CD and release systems for complex distributed environments.
      • Strong software engineering skills: Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python or Go, with the ability to build and maintain production-quality tooling and services.
      • AWS expertise: Deep experience operating production infrastructure on AWS, including reliable and secure cloud environments supporting sensitive data and distributed systems.
      • Linux and device operations: Hands-on experience operating Linux-based systems and networked or IoT device fleets, ideally including over-the-air update strategies.
      • CI/CD and release management: Demonstrated experience owning deployment pipelines, test gating, approvals, release promotion, traceability, and reversible deployment mechanisms.
      • Infrastructure as code and containers: Strong expertise with Terraform or Terragrunt and experience with Docker, ECS/Fargate, Kubernetes, or comparable technologies.
      • Production reliability: Experience implementing observability and operational tooling using technologies such as Datadog or CloudWatch, with a strong understanding of monitoring, alerting, reliability, and incident response.
      • Regulated or high-assurance environments: Experience working in medical devices, safety-critical software, aerospace, automotive, financial services, defense, or another highly regulated or sensitive-data environment is strongly preferred.
      • Medical-device expertise: Experience with Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), medical-device software lifecycles, IEC 62304, or FDA pathways such as 510(k) or De Novo is highly desirable.
      • Embedded OTA experience: Familiarity with Mender or comparable embedded-Linux update platforms, including signed images and A/B update strategies, is a plus.
      • Security and privacy knowledge: Experience with HIPAA/GDPR-compliant systems, audit logging, secure data transmission, PKI, device authentication, and threat modeling for connected devices is valuable.
      • Data and ML platform experience: Background supporting data engineering, machine-learning, or MLOps teams through data versioning, scalable infrastructure, reproducible environments, and production model serving is advantageous.
      • Networking and multi-cloud knowledge: Experience with secure overlay networks such as Tailscale or WireGuard, multi-account or multi-region architectures, and GCP or Azure alongside AWS is beneficial.
      • Domain knowledge: Familiarity with diagnostic or imaging devices, hardware-in-the-loop systems, physiological monitoring platforms, or similar connected medical technologies is a plus.
      • Collaborative and ownership-oriented mindset: Ability to work independently, communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, and balance engineering excellence with regulatory, clinical, and operational requirements.
      • Benefits

        • Competitive compensation: US base salary ranging from $121,600 to $228,000, depending on geographic pay tier, skills, experience, education, and location.
        • Performance incentives: Eligibility for performance-based incentives or bonuses, where applicable.
        • Equity: Equity participation.
        • Healthcare: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents, with generous employer premium contributions.
        • Retirement: Retirement savings plan with company matching.
        • Family benefits: Paid parental leave and inclusive family-building benefits.
        • Remote flexibility: Fully remote work with flexible arrangements designed to support sustainable performance.
        • Time off: Flexible paid time off and company-wide seasonal breaks.
        • Professional growth: On-the-job development, cross-functional collaboration, and access to internal learning and development opportunities.
        • Meaningful work: The opportunity to contribute to technology with potential impact across healthcare, life sciences, and other high-impact applications.
