About the role
Accountabilities
- Lead, hire, mentor, and develop the Identity & Access Management engineering team, owning performance, career development, team structure, and thoughtful scaling as enterprise investment grows.
- Own delivery of the enterprise-grade IAM platform, including authorization engines, permission and role models, enterprise authentication, SSO, MFA/2FA, session and token management, SCIM provisioning, sharing controls, audit logs, OAuth/API token management, and supporting data models and APIs.
- Establish roadmap priorities in partnership with Product, Security, and Engineering leadership, continuously improving identity, access, and administrative capabilities to meet demanding enterprise requirements.
- Run an AI-native engineering organization by structuring work for agent-assisted routing, reporting, triage, and execution, reducing manual processes and eliminating unnecessary status meetings.
- Partner directly with enterprise customers, go-to-market teams, and security stakeholders to understand access-control and identity requirements and contribute to enterprise security and architecture discussions.
- Own operational excellence for high-blast-radius services, including reliability, safe migrations, on-call health, incident readiness, and maintaining the server as the authoritative source of truth.
- Maintain a high engineering standard across architecture, design and code reviews, testing, performance, reliability, and security-by-design.
- Collaborate across backend, frontend, platform, Product, Design, and Information Security teams to deliver consistent and intuitive access experiences.
- Work closely with Staff-level technical leadership to establish sound technical direction while maintaining ownership of people, delivery, priorities, and execution.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building production SaaS products, including at least 3 years managing engineering teams and senior-level engineers.
- Hands-on Identity & Access Management experience, including authentication and authorization systems using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWTs, MFA/2FA, enterprise SSO, SCIM, and RBAC or comparable permission and role models.
- Experience using AI tools and agentic workflows to automate reporting, triage, status tracking, and other operational processes, with demonstrated ability to integrate AI into daily engineering workflows.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-grade SaaS at scale and working directly with enterprise customers and their security, compliance, and administrative requirements.
- Strong track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams.
- Sufficient technical depth to lead architecture discussions, evaluate trade-offs, and make sound decisions for high-blast-radius systems without needing to be the primary implementer.
- Security-first mindset with a strong focus on precise access controls, correctness, auditability, reliability, and minimizing operational blast radius.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills across Engineering, Product, Design, Security, and other stakeholder groups.
- Daily fluency with modern AI tools and a demonstrated willingness to continuously improve AI-enabled engineering practices.
- Preferred experience includes managing IAM or authorization platforms at significant scale, working with multi-tenant or workspace-scoped identity models, and designing configuration-driven or policy-based authorization systems such as RBAC/ABAC.
- Additional preferred experience includes SCIM, audit logging, enterprise compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, Zero Trust identity, moving products upmarket, and introducing AI-native operating models to engineering teams.
- Fully remote position within the United States.
- Base salary range of $250,000–$300,000, with actual compensation determined by factors such as location, experience, education, skills, and interview performance.
- Equity opportunities.
