About the role

Accountabilities:

    • Administer and maintain enterprise IBM DS8000 and DS8950F storage arrays and associated infrastructure supporting z/OS environments.
    • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot GDPS Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, and HyperSwap replication environments to maintain high availability and resilience.
    • Administer TS7700/TS7780 virtual tape systems, including Grid and clustering configurations.
    • Implement and manage Safeguarded Copy and other enterprise data protection capabilities.
    • Support enhanced-format datasets, DFP segment management, DFSMS, and other core mainframe storage functions.
    • Perform storage provisioning, allocation, tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting across production z/OS environments.
    • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive mainframe backup and recovery strategies, including schedules, retention policies, and virtual tape operations.
    • Conduct recovery validation exercises, disaster recovery drills, failover/failback simulations, and other business continuity activities.
    • Support CoLO and multi-data-center migrations while maintaining data integrity, availability, and operational continuity.
    • Lead storage and backup capacity planning by analyzing consumption, growth, performance, and replication trends and producing regular operational reporting.
    • Administer CA Disk (DMS), CA Allocate, CA View/Deliver, and CA Vantage and use REXX, JCL, or similar scripting technologies to automate operational tasks and reporting.
    • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including off-hours and weekend production changes when required.
    • Collaborate with system programmers, application teams, infrastructure stakeholders, and disaster recovery teams to resolve complex issues and support critical initiatives.
    • Maintain detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures, recovery guides, and operational knowledge bases.
    • Mentor junior team members and contribute to cross-training and knowledge-transfer initiatives across the broader infrastructure organization.
    • Requirements

      • At least 9 years of combined higher education and/or relevant professional experience.
      • Extensive hands-on experience administering enterprise mainframe storage environments, ideally with 7+ years in large-scale mainframe storage administration.
      • Strong expertise with IBM DS8000/DS8950F storage platforms, GDPS replication technologies, and TS7700/TS7780 virtual tape systems.
      • Deep knowledge of CA storage products, including CA Disk, CA Allocate, CA View/Deliver, and CA Vantage.
      • Strong understanding of DFSMS, VSAM RLS, SMS constructs, DFP, enhanced-format datasets, and z/OS storage architecture.
      • Proven experience designing and executing backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies for mainframe environments.
      • Familiarity with z/OS, JES2, REXX, JCL, and infrastructure automation frameworks.
      • Experience with active-active mainframe architectures, multi-data-center migrations, CoLO transitions, or similar high-availability environments is highly desirable.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex storage, replication, backup, and performance issues under pressure.
      • Experience with capacity planning, performance analysis, operational monitoring, and infrastructure optimization.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
      • Ability to document complex technical environments clearly and maintain disciplined operational procedures.
      • Demonstrated ability to mentor less-experienced professionals and lead knowledge-transfer initiatives.
      • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
      • IBM or Broadcom certifications in storage, GDPS, tape, or related technologies are a plus.
      • Ability to work effectively in a high-availability environment and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
