About the role
Accountabilities
- Lead the migration of legacy monolithic applications into scalable, maintainable Java-based microservices architectures.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain secure RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
- Build production-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and related modern development frameworks.
- Deploy and manage applications within AWS-based Kubernetes environments using containerization and orchestration technologies.
- Optimize database performance, scalability, reliability, and data access across PostgreSQL, MySQL, or comparable relational database systems.
- Implement authentication, authorization, OAuth, and secure coding practices throughout application development.
- Develop and maintain integrations with internal platforms, external systems, and third-party services.
- Contribute to application modernization initiatives, including migrations from legacy technologies and architectures.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot to support efficient development and problem-solving.
- Troubleshoot complex application and production issues while contributing to system reliability and continuous improvement.
- Participate in production support activities and on-call rotations as required.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers while remaining actively involved in hands-on development.
- Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate solutions, resolve challenges, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
- 8+ years of professional Java development experience.
- Advanced expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and RESTful API development.
- Proven experience modernizing legacy applications and transitioning monolithic systems to microservices architectures.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational database technologies.
- Knowledge of OAuth, authentication, authorization, and application security best practices.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated technical leadership skills and the ability to mentor engineers while maintaining a hands-on development role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within distributed teams.
- Ability to work with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices is preferred.
- Experience with Ruby-to-Java migrations is a plus.
- Federal government or healthcare IT experience is preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Must have lived continuously within the United States for the previous three consecutive years to satisfy federal background investigation requirements.
- Must successfully complete a government suitability review and background investigation.
- Annual salary range of $130,000–$150,000.
- Fully remote position within the United States.
