Senior Fraud Data Scientist

About the Role

As a Senior Fraud Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in protecting Gemini and our customers from emerging fraud risks. You’ll lead initiatives to strengthen our fraud prevention strategies, design and implement effective rules and controls, and proactively mitigate risk before it impacts our platform. Your work will range from evaluating fraud exposure to driving cross-functional projects that enhance detection capabilities and safeguard customer trust.

Responsibilities

• Program Development: Design and lead the development of end-to-end fraud prevention and detection strategies, including procedures, fraud rules, and controls.
• Risk Analysis: Conduct sophisticated data analysis on large datasets (structured and unstructured) to identify emerging fraud trends, patterns, and potential risks.
• Monitoring & Optimization: Continuously monitor fraud prevention system performance, measure key risk metrics, and implement data-driven enhancements to improve accuracy and reduce false positives.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data science, risk operations, product, engineering, and customer support teams to integrate fraud prevention into products and services.
• Project Management: Oversee initiatives aimed at advancing fraud detection systems and optimizing operational processes.
• Reporting & Communication: Develop and deliver clear, actionable reports and insights to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong experience with fraud detection systems, risk management methodologies, and regulatory frameworks.
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL and other data tools.
• Ability to design, manage, and measure the effectiveness of fraud prevention rules.
• Strategic, detail-oriented, and collaborative, with the ability to navigate complex risk landscapes while balancing prevention with a seamless customer experience.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and work independently.

This role requires on-call rotations.
