Senior Electrical Engineer
About the role
Position Opening
SMC is actively looking for a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to direct and execute electrical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and power systems studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
This candidate shall be capable of executing electrical design projects independently, beginning with driving concept level discussions and proceeding through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The electrical design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate will be highly capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc.
The ideal candidate will additionally be involved in growing the electrical expertise within the company, through internal training; development and implementation of design standards; oversight and execution of quality control practices.
Responsibilities
This candidate will have the opportunity to direct and execute the electrical design while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines.
- Design electrical infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses including campus level medium voltage distribution; highly redundant power systems including various redundancy topologies such as distributed and block redundant; on-site generation and UPS backup; typical building systems such as small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
- Coordinate with all internal and external disciplines for required electrical power connections.
- Coordinate monitoring system interfaces for electrical equipment with controls and telecommunications engineers.
- Understand and be capable of defining key performance criteria of power monitoring systems (EPMS), including specifications, points lists, and typical network hierarchies.
- Review client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices in order to understand design requirements.
