Job Summary
The Data Center Provisioning team is responsible for configuring and deploying the servers, network devices and supporting infrastructure that provides over 462Tbps of connected global capacity spanning across more than 100 points of presence (POPs) worldwide.
We are looking for a highly collaborative, detail-oriented data center provisioning engineer to join us as we build out new sites and provision additional capacity for existing sites, supporting the growth of a platform that serves a significant proportion of the content delivered to internet consumers across the planet.
You will work cross-functionally with our hardware, tooling, and operations teams, making our network bigger and better, and contributing to more scalable provisioning solutions.
What You'll Do
- Provision POPs (network devices, servers and equipment), following documented standards and processes, using a variety of tools including Github, Ansible, Chef, and Fastly's internal tool sets
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems that occur during provisioning and service turnup
- Work collaboratively with internal operations and infrastructure teams, as well as external partners, in support of error-free rapid expansion
- Contribute to the development and improvement of standards and processes for the provisioning of new infrastructure
- Partner with other Fastly teams in the development and iteration of tools and automation systems that improve how we provision the network
- Support post-deployment validation, monitoring integration, and handoff to Network Operations for steady-state management.
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years experience in network devices and server provisioning, system administration, and/or site reliability engineering
- Strong understanding of how the internet and TCP/IP work, focused on client/server dataflow
- Strong IP routing knowledge, with a focus BGP with a deep understanding of TCP/IP
- Understanding of how CDNs work and their position in the global internet
- Comfort in a Linux environment, and prior experience with software/automation workflow tools such as Git, Travis, Chef, Ansible, or comparable
- Ability to troubleshoot server, scripting, and network issues
- Scripting ability in a common language such as Bash, Python, etc.
Bonus Experience
- Prior experience working at a Content Delivery Network (CDN), hyperscale cloud provider, or telecom infrastructure provider.
- Hands-on coding experience (e.g., Python, Rust) for building or improving internal tooling.
- Experience provisioning and maintaining infrastructure for a large-scale, high-availability global network.
Work Hours
This position will require you to be available during core business hours.
