About the role
Accountabilities:
- Manage complex, difficult, and crisis-related case situations while providing compassionate, client-centered support.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand clients’ individual, family, social, employment, housing, and integration needs.
- Co-create individualized case management and self-sufficiency plans with clients and coordinate the services required to achieve their goals.
- Welcome and orient newcomers to their communities and help them access appropriate resources and support systems.
- Assist clients in securing safe, appropriate, and affordable housing while developing and maintaining relationships with local landlords.
- Help clients establish realistic and ambitious employment goals, develop employability plans, and overcome barriers to employment and family self-sufficiency.
- Connect clients with services such as English language education, transportation, childcare, healthcare, immigration assistance, employment resources, and other community programs.
- Advocate for clients and help them access federal, state, local, and nonprofit programs for which they may be eligible.
- Coordinate referrals and services with internal programs, ORR service providers, immigration legal organizations, community agencies, and other professional providers.
- Provide interpretation, translation, transportation, and practical assistance when necessary to help clients attend appointments, interviews, and essential services.
- Administer rental assistance in accordance with program guidelines and applicable funder requirements.
- Maintain accurate case files, case notes, service records, public assistance information, databases, and required reports.
- Monitor client progress, evaluate the effectiveness of support plans, and recommend adjustments based on changing needs.
- Stay current on immigrant-related issues, federal and state policies, available services, and changes affecting access to resources.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, social service providers, volunteers, and professional partners.
- Communicate with volunteer coordinators to organize appropriate volunteer support for client welcome and pre-arrival activities.
- Develop and deliver targeted training for case management staff and participate in relevant trainings and conferences.
- Represent the program at meetings, community events, and speaking engagements relevant to the position.
- Perform duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner and work varied schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- At least 4 years of previous experience in case management or human service delivery supporting U.S. refugee and/or immigrant populations.
- Minimum age of 21.
- Deep understanding of social casework principles and practices, including strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches.
- Experience with motivational interviewing, empowerment-based case management, and co-creation of self-sufficiency plans.
- Strong understanding of cultural humility, anti-racism, equity and inclusion, power differentials, privilege, and intersectionality.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate empathy and build trust across different cultures and languages.
- Ability to use culturally responsive and action-oriented approaches to build rapport with newcomers.
- Strong assessment, planning, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and systems-thinking skills.
- Understanding of how policies and systemic factors influence individuals’ and families’ access to services and resources.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to social services and immigration.
- Understanding of immigration legal policies and how different forms of immigration relief and ORR eligibility affect access to services.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients, priorities, deadlines, and documentation requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant case management or client databases.
- Ability to use technology such as Zoom, WhatsApp, phone, email, and other digital tools to communicate with clients across diverse U.S. communities.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, volunteers, external agencies, and professional service providers.
- Strong knowledge of local community resources, social services, support programs, and systems that can help clients achieve self-sufficiency.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and a willingness to approach diverse clients with respect, self-awareness, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Fluency in additional languages is preferred, particularly languages commonly spoken by refugee and immigrant communities.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Ability to accurately document client interactions, progress, services, and relevant information in required systems and databases.
- Ability to successfully manage a fully virtual caseload while maintaining strong client engagement and service coordination.
