About the role

Accountabilities:

    • Design and develop end-to-end Looker semantic models, including model files, views, explores, dimensions, measures, LookML dashboards, and Looks.
    • Build scalable LookML architectures using reusable base explores, explore inheritance, shared views, structured includes, and curated field exposure.
    • Implement and maintain row-level security using Looker user attributes and access filters.
    • Develop dynamic reporting experiences using Liquid templating, parameters, templated filters, and conditional logic.
    • Optimize BI performance through appropriate caching strategies, datagroups, persistent derived tables, and query-performance tuning.
    • Manage Looker content, permissions, folders, embedding configurations, and development workflows.
    • Validate data before development by profiling source tables with SQL and verifying completeness, coverage, quality, and business relevance.
    • Migrate legacy reports from platforms such as Tableau, SSRS, or other BI tools into Looker against governed cloud data warehouse models.
    • Analyze source reports, map columns to target warehouse tables, identify data gaps, document discrepancies, and rebuild reports according to established standards rather than simply replicating legacy layouts.
    • Collaborate closely with Data Engineering teams to define column mappings, raise precise data issues, and ensure required data is available before development begins.
    • Promote upstream data transformations where appropriate instead of embedding unnecessary business logic within LookML.
    • Work within Git-based development workflows, including branching, merge requests, peer reviews, and collaborative code management.
    • Establish and enforce LookML development standards covering naming conventions, model structures, shared view libraries, and review practices.
    • Communicate directly with client stakeholders through project discussions, demonstrations, status updates, and recommendations.
    • Identify and communicate risks, blockers, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly throughout project delivery.
    • Mentor junior developers, review their work, and contribute to a culture of consistent engineering standards.
    • Continue developing expertise in emerging BI and analytics technologies, with a particular focus on expanding Looker expertise into Omni and related modern platforms.
    • Take ownership of deliverables through development, review, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
    • Requirements:

      • Strong professional experience delivering enterprise BI and analytics solutions, with expert-level hands-on experience in Looker and LookML.
      • Advanced LookML expertise covering views, explores, model files, dimension and measure design, dimension groups, drill fields, and scalable semantic model architecture.
      • Strong understanding of Looker row-level security, including user attributes and access filters.
      • Experience with Liquid templating, parameters, templated filters, and conditional reporting logic.
      • Knowledge of Looker caching and performance optimization, including datagroups, caching policies, persistent derived tables, and query tuning.
      • Strong SQL skills, including data profiling, complex joins, window functions, data validation, and quality analysis.
      • Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, including star schemas, fact and dimension design, slowly changing dimensions, point-in-time joins, and prevention of join fan-out.
      • Experience working with governed cloud data warehouses and building analytics solutions from trusted, modeled datasets.
      • Demonstrated experience completing at least one BI migration from a legacy platform such as Tableau, SSRS, or another enterprise BI solution into Looker.
      • Ability to investigate source-to-target mapping issues, data inconsistencies, incomplete datasets, and differences between testing and production environments.
      • Strong consulting and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with clients, Data Engineering teams, product teams, and program managers.
      • Ability to articulate blockers precisely, distinguish hard blockers from data or functionality degradations, and explain technical constraints in business-friendly language.
      • Self-directed and comfortable working in ambiguous, fast-changing project environments.
      • Strong ownership mindset, with willingness to review peer code, mentor junior team members, contribute to standards, and take responsibility for production delivery.
      • Strong interest in continuous learning and the ability to quickly adopt adjacent and emerging technologies.
      • Experience with Omni is strongly preferred, particularly for candidates who have previously expanded their expertise across BI platforms.
      • Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, Sigma, Git/GitLab, embedded analytics, Looker APIs/SDKs, System Activity, or Looker administration is a plus.
      • Exposure to dbt or similar transformation frameworks, AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Copilot, and Snowflake is advantageous.
      • Looker/LookML certification and SnowPro certification are additional advantages.
      • Benefits:

        • Remote-first working environment.
        • Opportunity to work on complex enterprise BI and analytics engagements across diverse industries.
        • Hands-on exposure to modern data, cloud, analytics, and AI technologies.
        • Dedicated opportunity to upskill from Looker into Omni and other emerging BI platforms.
        • Exposure to cloud data warehouses and modern data ecosystems, including Snowflake and related technologies.
        • Opportunity to collaborate closely with experienced Data Engineering, Analytics, Product, and client-facing teams.
        • Significant ownership over technical solutions, development standards, and production deliverables.
        • Opportunity to mentor junior developers and grow into broader technical leadership responsibilities.
        • Experience working on enterprise-scale data migrations and governed analytics environments.
        • Remote collaboration across international teams and a distributed work environment.
        • Inclusive workplace culture that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
