About the role
Accountabilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate GAAP-compliant financial statements suitable for leadership, board, and investor reporting.
- Manage revenue recognition for subscription and usage-based business models, including deferred revenue accounting and related processes.
- Maintain a scalable, accurate, and well-documented general ledger, including appropriate account coding and accounting policies.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable operations end to end, including customer invoicing, collections, expense management, and process improvements.
- Manage tax compliance and filings while coordinating relationships with external audit, tax, legal, and other financial partners.
- Establish and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and operational processes to support scalability and prepare for future external audits and financing activities.
- Design and manage an AI-enabled finance technology stack, evaluating accounting systems and identifying opportunities to automate workflows and improve efficiency.
- Build sophisticated reporting and financial processes that provide leadership with dependable data and greater visibility into business performance.
- Collaborate closely with finance, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders on financial and operational decisions.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting team members as the function expands, establishing a strong culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is strongly preferred.
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience within a high-growth SaaS or technology environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies, including ASC 606 revenue recognition and deferred revenue for subscription and usage-based businesses.
- Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and supporting or completing external audits.
- Proven ability to build and improve accounting processes and infrastructure within an early-stage or rapidly scaling organization.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, and data-management capabilities, with the ability to work confidently with large datasets.
- Experience automating accounting workflows, developing reporting solutions, and integrating financial systems is highly valued.
- Ability to evaluate and implement technology and AI tools that improve accounting accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to financial accuracy.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with finance leaders, executives, auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience in InsurTech, Big Four accounting, venture-backed startups, external audit, or financial diligence is a plus.
