About the role

Accountabilities

    • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve security and anti-abuse capabilities within core product systems.
    • Partner closely with Trust & Safety engineering teams to define technical strategies, solve complex security challenges, and strengthen preventative controls.
    • Design systems that identify, mitigate, and prevent malicious, fraudulent, or abusive activity across the platform.
    • Participate in and lead code reviews for security-sensitive features, promoting strong engineering practices, maintainability, and code quality.
    • Support the development and refinement of machine learning models by helping collect, organize, and prepare high-quality training data.
    • Collaborate with engineering and other cross-functional teams to ensure new products and features are launched with appropriate security and anti-abuse protections.
    • Investigate security incidents, abuse reports, and emerging threats, identifying root causes and implementing effective remediation.
    • Monitor evolving security threats, fraud patterns, and anti-abuse techniques and translate relevant findings into practical platform improvements.
    • Implement and manage integrations with third-party security, fraud, identity, and anti-abuse products within production environments.
    • Contribute to threat intelligence and preventative security initiatives by anticipating potential attack vectors and designing controls before threats become widespread.
    • Adapt quickly across projects, technologies, and priorities while maintaining a strong balance between delivery speed, technical quality, and security.
    • Share knowledge with teammates and contribute constructively to a collaborative engineering culture through technical discussions and code reviews.
    • Requirements

      • 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building and maintaining production software systems.
      • Experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable MVC backend framework.
      • Strong understanding of full-stack web architectures and how applications and services behave in production environments.
      • Experience with modern testing frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Jest, Selenium, or RSpec.
      • Solid understanding of computer networking fundamentals, including subnetting, DNS, HTTP, and HTTPS protocols.
      • Practical experience with security and anti-abuse technologies such as WAF rules, Cloudflare, reCAPTCHA, and comparable protection systems.
      • Familiarity with threat intelligence feeds, fraud prevention, security platforms, KYC solutions, or enterprise security tools.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break complex security problems into manageable components and identify root causes.
      • A security-oriented or “hacker” mindset, with curiosity about how systems can be exploited and the ability to anticipate malicious behavior and attack vectors.
      • Demonstrated ability to think abstractly and creatively when addressing emerging or poorly defined security threats.
      • Strong technical judgment and a proven ability to take ownership of systems and projects over time.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical and security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
      • Ability to collaborate effectively within a small, highly autonomous engineering team and contribute constructive feedback during technical discussions and code reviews.
      • Comfortable managing multiple priorities, switching contexts, and adapting to new technologies in a fast-moving environment.
      • A proactive, quality-focused approach with the resilience and persistence needed to solve difficult technical problems.
      • Ability to balance high engineering standards with pragmatism, speed, and delivery requirements.
      • Benefits

        • Competitive salary of $160,000–$180,000 USD, depending on experience.
        • Stock options.
        • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

        • Monthly Wellness Days, including the third Friday of each month.
        • High-impact role with significant visibility and technical ownership.
        • Opportunity to work on challenging security, trust, safety, and anti-abuse problems within a rapidly growing organization.
        • Collaborative environment with opportunities to shape new systems, processes, and engineering practices.
