Reporting to our Head of News, the news writers will play a critical role as a 24/7 nerve center for the newsroom.

- This is a job for the news junkies who “monitor the situation” for fun and want to do it for a living.
- We operate at one cadence - do it right now - and are after people who marry a love of news with the thrill of being busy.
Responsibilities
- Real-time news surveillance
- Quick-turn writing of spot news stories
- Monitoring developments on key stories and flagging them to experts
Ideal candidates
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with a team of journalists.
- Writing experience in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated experience monitoring and activating on news.
- A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios.
- Experience working across teams to produce quality content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the digital and social media landscape.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation
Starting salary for this role is in the range of $75,000 - $125,000, dependent on factors including location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
