Regional Director, Medical Science Liaison

Accountabilities

• • Lead regional medical affairs activities supporting Phase 3 clinical trial execution, investigator engagement, protocol education, and clinical site support.
  • Build and maintain strong scientific relationships with investigators, key opinion leaders, healthcare providers, academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, HMOs, and strategic ophthalmology accounts.
  • Support clinical trial sites through trial awareness, protocol education, patient identification strategies, referral initiatives, and ongoing scientific and clinical guidance.
  • Establish and execute quarterly engagement objectives across priority accounts, healthcare systems, and strategic customer groups.
  • Help establish a scalable field medical organization, including contributing to future organizational design, team expansion, and leadership of additional Medical Science Liaison professionals.
  • Represent the organization at scientific congresses, advisory boards, investigator meetings, clinical insight sessions, and other relevant medical events.
  • Support congress planning, scientific exchange activities, meeting coordination, and systematic collection of field medical insights.
  • Facilitate compliant scientific exchange with healthcare professionals regarding clinical data, disease-state education, pipeline development, and relevant scientific information.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Medical Affairs leadership on speaker bureau identification, onboarding, and training initiatives.
  • Gather field insights, competitive intelligence, unmet medical needs, and emerging clinical perspectives, communicating actionable findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, and Medical Affairs teams to ensure alignment between field activities and broader clinical and medical strategies.
  • Maintain current and comprehensive scientific knowledge of ophthalmology, glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and related therapeutic areas.
  • Ensure all field activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, GCP principles, and industry standards.
  • Travel extensively within the assigned territory and nationally as needed for conferences, investigator meetings, corporate meetings, and other strategic engagements.

  Requirements

  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree preferred, such as PharmD, PhD, OD, MD, NP, or PA.
  • At least 8 years of experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industry, including meaningful field medical affairs or MSL leadership experience.
  • Experience in ophthalmology, retina, glaucoma, ocular hypertension, or closely related therapeutic areas is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting Phase 3 clinical programs, investigator-sponsored research, clinical trial sites, or related clinical development activities is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of clinical trial operations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), FDA regulations, and compliant scientific exchange practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with healthcare providers, investigators, academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, and key opinion leaders.
  • Excellent scientific communication, presentation, relationship-building, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex scientific and clinical information and communicate it effectively to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across Clinical Operations, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and maintaining a high level of scientific and professional integrity.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and comfortable with a travel-intensive position requiring approximately 50–75% domestic travel.
