About the role
Accountabilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a national content strategy and annual editorial calendar aligned with organizational priorities, marketing objectives, business needs, and contractual commitments.
- Identify, prioritize, and coordinate high-value conservation and science stories across regions and business units.
- Develop audience-focused messaging and determine the most effective formats, channels, and timing to maximize engagement and impact.
- Ensure content consistently reflects brand standards, messaging frameworks, organizational voice, and strategic communications priorities.
- Establish objectives and performance metrics for content development and delivery, monitor results, and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as a key connection point between regional teams, business units, and the national marketing and communications function, ensuring effective information flow and alignment of priorities.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across regions and business units to understand communications needs, opportunities, and priorities.
- Coordinate content development across teams, clarifying responsibilities, timelines, workflows, and deliverables.
- Participate in regional and national planning processes to ensure content strategies balance local needs with broader organizational priorities.
- Oversee the development of high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content communicating conservation outcomes, scientific insights, and organizational impact.
- Support communications deliverables associated with funded projects, partnerships, and contractual commitments.
- Guide communications specialists and content professionals in developing effective storytelling approaches across multiple platforms.
- Ensure content produced across regions and business units meets quality, consistency, and timeliness expectations.
- Lead and develop a team that includes an editor and content specialists, setting priorities, managing workloads, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing environment centered on creativity, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to departmental and organizational strategic planning and identify opportunities to improve content workflows, tools, and cross-functional coordination.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, content strategy, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of demonstrated experience managing people and financial resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Extensive knowledge of strategic communications, content development, editorial planning, and storytelling across multiple platforms.
- Strong understanding of audience segmentation, digital communications, and integrated marketing strategies.
- Experience collaborating within complex, multi-stakeholder environments involving multiple regions, departments, or business units.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate complex, multi-part initiatives and manage competing priorities.
- Experience communicating environmental science, policy, conservation, or other complex subject matter to diverse audiences is highly valuable.
- Knowledge of content management systems and strong working knowledge of CPA writing style.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong editorial judgment and attention to detail.
- Strong relationship-building, leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging, audience-appropriate content.
- Bilingualism in French is considered an asset, particularly given the national scope of the role.
- Previous experience in the nonprofit sector is an asset.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across a remote, nationally distributed organization.
- Salary of $82,500–$104,500, based on a 35-hour work week and commensurate with education and experience.
- Fully remote work arrangement within Canada.
