About the role
Accountabilities
- Maintain accurate patient documentation by recording interactions, updating case notes in pharmacy systems, and following applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements.
- Process prior authorization requests by gathering clinical documentation, completing payer-specific forms, submitting requests, and monitoring progress through resolution.
- Verify patient insurance coverage by reviewing insurance information, checking formulary details, documenting benefits, and identifying relevant coverage requirements.
- Support financial assistance enrollment by collecting eligibility information, completing manufacturer copay applications, and submitting required documentation to program administrators.
- Coordinate specialty pharmacy referrals by processing referral forms, verifying insurance benefits, scheduling patient communications, and liaising with pharmacy teams.
- Respond to routine patient inquiries by providing timely status updates and answering basic questions using established guidelines and scripts.
- Monitor pending prior authorizations, follow up with payers regarding outstanding requests, and escalate delays, denials, or complex cases to senior team members.
- Manage multiple cases and administrative priorities while maintaining accuracy, service quality, and compliance with established procedures.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience is required; an associate degree in healthcare administration, life sciences, pharmacy technology, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in pharmacy support, prior authorization processing, insurance verification, healthcare administration, or a closely related environment.
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance processes, prior authorizations, pharmacy operations, or patient assistance programs.
- Training or working knowledge of HIPAA or applicable privacy and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling patient records, insurance information, forms, and case documentation.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to track multiple cases, deadlines, and follow-ups simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional, empathetic approach to patient interactions.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate complex, sensitive, or unresolved issues.
- Comfortable working with pharmacy, healthcare, and administrative systems and maintaining accurate electronic records.
- 12-month full-time contract opportunity.
- Salary range: CAD $43,466–$77,044 annually.
