About the role
Accountabilities
- Provide clinical leadership, oversight, and medical management for behavioral health programs and utilization management activities.
- Serve as the primary clinical resource for complex case reviews, utilization management decisions, and provider consultations.
- Partner with health plans, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders to promote evidence-based behavioral health practices and improve member outcomes.
- Support initiatives that expand access to mental health and substance use disorder services.
- Oversee clinical metrics, quality improvement programs, utilization measures, and evidence-based standards of care.
- Analyze clinical and performance data to identify opportunities and implement strategies that improve access, quality, operational effectiveness, and member experience.
- Lead or contribute to behavioral health quality, utilization, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure clinical programs and practices remain compliant with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
- Provide clinical consultation, education, and subject matter expertise to internal teams, health plan partners, and provider networks.
- Monitor emerging behavioral health trends and incorporate relevant best practices into clinical programs and care models.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, including providers, regulators, health plans, and community partners.
- Contribute to the development, optimization, and evaluation of clinical programs and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support strategic change management and operational excellence across behavioral health services.
- Travel as required, up to approximately 25%.
- Active, unrestricted Physician (MD or DO) license in the State of Michigan, with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain additional state licenses as required.
- Board certification in Psychiatry.
- At least 5 years of experience practicing as a psychiatrist, with expertise in behavioral health, mental health, and/or substance use disorder populations.
- At least 3 years of experience in a managed care and/or utilization management environment.
- Proven experience driving clinical outcomes, quality improvement, and operational performance.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based clinical practices, population health, quality metrics, healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong clinical judgment, analytical thinking, and data-driven decision-making skills.
- Experience developing, optimizing, and evaluating clinical programs, care models, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Strategic leadership and change management capabilities, with a focus on innovation and operational excellence.
- Excellent communication, consultation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to adapt effectively to a changing healthcare environment and respond with agility to evolving priorities.
- Strong commitment to compassionate, empathetic, inclusive, and patient-centered care.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment.
- Ability to pass required employment screening and background verification processes.
- Comfortable working remotely with company-provided equipment, a quiet workspace, and reliable high-speed internet.
- Annual compensation of $270,000–$310,000, plus an annual performance-based discretionary incentive.
