About the role

Accountabilities

    • Own the direct tax function, including corporate income tax provision, compliance, deferred tax attribute tracking, forecasting, and supporting technical positions across the entity group.
    • Prepare or review monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions covering current and deferred tax, effective tax rate reconciliations, provision-to-return true-ups, and tax account reconciliations.
    • Establish and maintain direct tax review standards, determining when independent recalculation, additional evidence, or deeper technical review is required.
    • Analyze, document, and periodically refresh significant or complex tax positions, including deferred tax assets, tax attributes, loss pools, entity changes, EIFEL restrictions, and uncertain tax treatments under IFRIC 23.
    • Review T2 and provincial corporate income tax returns, instalments, elections, and information returns while maintaining an accurate compliance calendar and following through on assessments, refunds, and true-ups.
    • Ensure tax return working papers, supporting documentation, entity-level tax memos, and technical analyses are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
    • Lead direct tax audit support, including maintaining standing files, preparing requested schedules, and developing technical responses for the CRA and Revenu Québec.
    • Ensure tax elections, waivers, exemptions, and deferrals are filed correctly and on time, with appropriate evidence retained for audit defense.
    • Partner with the Tax Director to advise the business on direct tax implications associated with transactions, entity changes, and reorganizations.
    • Monitor developments in tax legislation, administrative positions, products, and business activities to identify emerging tax considerations and opportunities.
    • Improve tax processes and workflows through automation and responsible application of AI, ensuring technology supports efficiency without replacing professional judgment.
    • Coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and external tax advisors while maintaining clear ownership of tax positions and deliverables.
    • Requirements

      • CPA designation with deep knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax and hands-on experience with income tax provisions under IFRS and IAS 12.
      • Strong experience with current and deferred tax, effective tax rate reconciliations, tax forecasting, provision-to-return true-ups, deferred tax assets, tax attributes, and loss pools.
      • Proven experience managing T2 and provincial corporate income tax compliance across a multi-entity organization.
      • Demonstrated experience reviewing tax work prepared by others, providing review notes, resolving issues, and determining when work is ready for release.
      • Strong technical writing and documentation skills, with the ability to frame tax issues, establish defensible positions, document supporting rationale, and communicate conclusions clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
      • Strong understanding of Canadian corporate tax legislation, regulations, and CRA administrative practices.
      • Sound professional judgment, with the ability to assess tax matters based on risk rather than relying solely on standardized review processes.
      • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tax priorities and deadlines.
      • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.
      • Comfortable working with evolving data, processes, and technology, with an interest in using AI and automation where they can meaningfully improve tax operations.
      • Nice to have: Completion of the In-Depth Tax Program or an equivalent Canadian tax specialization.
      • Nice to have: Experience supporting CRA or provincial tax audits and correspondence.
      • Nice to have: Experience managing or directing external tax advisors and reviewing their deliverables.
      • Nice to have: Experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated multi-entity environment.
      • Nice to have: Familiarity with Taxprep, NetSuite, Taxnet Pro, or comparable tax and financial systems.
      • Benefits

        • Competitive base salary of CA$116,000–CA$145,000, with exceptional candidates potentially considered above the stated range based on experience, skills, and impact.
        • Equity compensation for permanent employees as part of the total compensation package.
        • Market-based salary bands and clear job levels designed to support fair and consistent compensation.
        • Comprehensive health benefits and life insurance.
        • Long-term group savings program with employer matching.
        • 20 vacation days, plus 4 wellness days.
        • Unlimited sick and mental health days.
        • Opportunity to work outside Canada for up to 90 days per year.
        • Employee resource groups supporting inclusion, belonging, and community.
        • Collaboration with a large, diverse team of talented professionals across North America.
        • An environment that encourages innovation, continuous learning, new technologies, AI adoption, and thoughtful experimentation.
        • Commitment to an inclusive, accessible, and supportive workplace.
