About the role
Accountabilities
- Lead end-to-end pod delivery: Own planning, execution, quality, technical outcomes, and timely delivery for the orchestration engineering pod.
- Design workflow orchestration: Build durable, long-running workflows using Temporal and Node.js/TypeScript to manage member action lifecycles, state transitions, scheduling, activation, and delivery outcomes.
- Own action delivery architecture: Manage the complete delivery pipeline from decision publication through activation, acknowledgment, and state reconciliation, including Transactional Outbox patterns, idempotency, retries, backoff strategies, dead-letter queues, and receipt processing.
- Develop activation integrations: Build and maintain integrations with activation and engagement platforms and Kafka-based downstream systems while defining reliable delivery contracts and receipt-ingestion patterns.
- Remain hands-on technically: Write production code across Temporal workflows and activities, Node.js services, Kafka producers and consumers, outbox processors, and integration services.
- Drive architectural decisions: Establish approaches for workflow and state-machine design, compensation strategies, topic structures, schema evolution, API contracts, and delivery guarantees.
- Engineer for distributed-systems reliability: Build for correctness in asynchronous environments through durable state management, deduplication, idempotent processing, safe retries, and graceful failure recovery.
- Strengthen observability and operations: Implement monitoring, tracing, alerting, and operational visibility across workflows, event publication, activation, and delivery acknowledgment.
- Lead and mentor the team: Manage and support engineers and contractors, conduct code reviews, maintain engineering standards, and remove delivery blockers.
- Coordinate cross-functional dependencies: Partner with decisioning, platform, activation, and other technology teams to identify integration risks, dependencies, and operational concerns early.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical field.
- Engineering experience: 6+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, including 1–2+ years in a technical leadership or senior lead capacity.
- Backend development: Strong production experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Workflow orchestration: Hands-on experience with durable workflow platforms; Temporal is strongly preferred, with comparable technologies such as Cadence, AWS Step Functions, or Airflow also relevant.
- Distributed systems: Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and durable state management.
- Kafka: Experience designing and implementing production-grade Kafka producer and consumer patterns.
- Event delivery: Experience with Transactional Outbox architectures, event-driven integrations, or comparable reliable messaging patterns.
- Technical leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead a small engineering pod and take ownership of technical delivery and outcomes.
- Cloud infrastructure: Experience operating cloud-native applications on Azure or comparable infrastructure using Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Communication: Ability to clearly communicate architecture, delivery progress, operational risks, dependencies, and technical trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Preferred technical depth: Experience with Temporal at scale, including workflow versioning and long-running workflow operations, as well as deep knowledge of delivery acknowledgments, dead-letter queues, receipt reconciliation, and exactly-once business-processing semantics.
- Additional preferred experience: Familiarity with Adobe Experience Platform or similar engagement platforms, Kafka ecosystem tooling, event schema governance, Helm, Terraform, Kubernetes, React/TypeScript, Java services, and decision-intelligence systems.
- Industry knowledge: Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated environment involving sensitive information, auditability, and compliance is advantageous.
- Work authorization and environment: Candidates should be able to work effectively from home with reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace. Occasional travel for training, meetings, or conferences may be required.
- Base salary: $129,300–$177,800 per year, depending on location, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
- Performance incentive: Eligibility for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
- Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Retirement: 401(k) retirement savings plan.
- Paid time off: Paid time off, company and personal holidays, and paid parental and caregiver leave.
- Income protection: Short-term and long-term disability coverage and life insurance.
- Work flexibility: Remote work opportunity with a typical Monday–Friday schedule of 40 hours per week, with some flexibility based on business needs.
- Home-office requirements: Employees working remotely must have internet service supporting at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds and a dedicated, interruption-free workspace.
- Additional benefits: Access to a broader range of employee well-being and support programs.
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required for training, meetings, or conferences.
