About the role

Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.

About this team and role

We are seeking a strategic, pragmatic, and proactive Privacy Counsel to join our privacy legal team! This role will focus primarily on building, operationalizing, and maintaining Mozilla’s core privacy compliance infrastructure and scalable privacy governance processes across our global organization. Working remotely, you will serve as frontline privacy counsel for internal privacy matters, advising teams across Mozilla on operational privacy risks, enterprise data governance, third-party risk management, and incident response. You will partner closely with legal, security, IT, engineering, procurement, people, trust and safety, and other cross-functional stakeholders to help operationalize privacy-by-design principles across Mozilla’s internal systems and enterprise processes, and develop our privacy compliance and risk-management strategy.

This is a highly collaborative and execution-oriented role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership of complex initiatives, and can independently drive programs from strategy through implementation. We’re a small legal team, so this role requires someone who is both a leader and a “doer” - someone with deep expertise but who isn’t above rolling up their sleeves to take on tasks necessary to help make sure the job gets done. The ideal candidate combines strong substantive privacy expertise with experience building durable compliance infrastructure and managing enterprise privacy operations in a fast-moving technology environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of Mozilla’s core privacy compliance infrastructure, including enterprise data mapping and records of processing activities.
  • Independently drive complex cross-functional privacy initiatives and operationalize scalable governance processes with minimal oversight.
  • Evaluate and advise on evolving U.S., European, and international privacy and AI related regulatory developments and industry guidelines relevant to enterprise operations and internal data governance.
  • Design and operationalize scalable global privacy compliance processes, controls, and documentation frameworks across Mozilla’s internal systems and enterprise functions.
  • Manage and advise on third-party privacy risk management, including vendor and partner due diligence, contracting, and ongoing monitoring.
