About the role
Accountabilities
- Infrastructure Design & Operations: Design, deploy, maintain, and optimize infrastructure supporting resilient application environments, including server, hardware, software, and network configurations.
- Linux & Systems Administration: Configure and maintain lightweight Linux server environments through the command line, including custom kernels, startup automation, system recovery, middleware, and performance tuning.
- Network & Connectivity Management: Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues, maintain firewalls and VPNs, manage Wi-Fi and network switches, and ensure reliable voice and data flow across environments.
- Incident & Root Cause Management: Investigate system performance, security, connectivity, and application issues, identify root causes, and implement durable solutions for time-sensitive problems.
- Client Technical Support: Provide infrastructure installation, support, and guidance to client IT teams while clearly communicating technical plans, risks, dependencies, and recommended solutions.
- Planning & Delivery: Develop detailed implementation plans for server hardware and software deliverables and communicate them effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Monitoring & Process Improvement: Define meaningful operational metrics, identify opportunities for cost savings and infrastructure optimization, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Operational Support: Provide on-call assistance during critical incidents and flexible support windows, while maintaining reliable communication and service continuity.
- Internal Technical Support: Assist with internal infrastructure, network, VPN connectivity, hardware, and software needs as required.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with consultants and internal teams to anticipate infrastructure changes, resolve complex issues, document procedures, and maintain consistent technical standards.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Network Systems Administration, Information Systems Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience, with 5+ years of relevant infrastructure experience.
- Linux Expertise: At least 5 years of experience configuring and administering lightweight Linux servers through the command line, including custom kernel configuration, startup automation, and system recovery.
- Scripting & Data Technologies: Strong experience with shell scripting, middleware, and SQL, with the ability to automate operational tasks and support application environments.
- Networking: Hands-on experience with firewalls and VPNs, including SonicWall, Wi-Fi management, VLANs, trunking, managed switches, and multi-switch network topologies.
- Infrastructure Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to diagnose system, application, connectivity, performance, and security issues and drive problems through to root-cause resolution.
- Client Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, implementation plans, risks, and issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Reliability & Ownership: Strong self-direction, accountability, composure under pressure, and the ability to prioritize business-critical issues without close supervision.
- Remote Work: Ability to maintain a dependable home office with high-speed internet and work effectively with distributed teams across client time zones.
- Availability: Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and occasional evening or weekend support when required.
- Travel: Ability to travel approximately 10–25% within the United States for go-lives, critical incidents, data center activities, or on-site infrastructure work.
- Preferred Technical Skills: Experience with WebLogic administration, clustered environments, scripted application deployment, performance monitoring, and tuning.
- Virtualization & Backup: Familiarity with VMware vCenter, ESXi, Workstation, Player, Oracle VM/OVM Manager, and Veeam Backup and Restore.
- Additional Technologies: Experience with Oracle Database Administration, DNS, Active Directory and PowerShell, Microsoft Office applications, and enterprise infrastructure support is advantageous.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Oracle Utilities products and the energy or utilities industry is preferred.
- Remote-first work: Fully remote position within the United States.
