About the role

Accountabilities

    • Review, set up, and maintain wage garnishment orders, including preparing orders and related correspondence for processing and scanning.
    • Maintain garnishment rules within the payroll system by researching applicable state requirements and testing withholding calculations with senior payroll systems specialists.
    • Ensure employee wage withholdings are calculated and processed accurately according to garnishment type, legal requirements, and applicable deadlines.
    • Create, review, and process reports used to automate answer letters and interrogatory responses.
    • Maintain garnishment records and enter appropriate start and stop dates based on court orders and other legal documentation.
    • Resolve payroll and garnishment questions from courts, agencies, employees, and other stakeholders by providing accurate and timely information.
    • Collaborate with internal departments and external contacts, including collection agencies, courts, and legal representatives, to investigate and resolve issues.
    • Process lump-sum payments and coordinate with agencies to determine appropriate withholding amounts for bonuses, annual or quarterly payments, and other lump-sum compensation.
    • Troubleshoot processing automation failures and analyze issues to ensure garnishment workflows operate effectively.
    • Participate in special projects, including account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and cross-training activities.
    • Maintain professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive employee, payroll, and legal information.
    • Manage multiple priorities and meet established service-level deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
    • Requirements

      • General knowledge of payroll functions and processing, including bookkeeping, payroll taxes, fringe benefits, and wage garnishments.
      • Experience or familiarity with garnishment processing, payroll administration, or related compliance activities is highly relevant.
      • Proficiency with PC-based spreadsheet applications and standard office technology.
      • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues and determine appropriate solutions.
      • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain procedures, obtain information, and communicate professionally with different stakeholders.
      • Ability to research and interpret legal or regulatory requirements and translate them into appropriate payroll system actions.
      • Customer-service orientation and the ability to remain professional and constructive when dealing with challenging situations or resistance.
      • Process-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
      • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
      • Strong project-management and prioritization skills.
      • Willingness to engage in occasional telephone interactions with garnishment agencies and other external stakeholders.
      • Ability to work remotely while maintaining productivity, accountability, and consistent service-level performance.
