About the role
Position Description
Fire Protection Engineers at Oklo are responsible for the design and development of the fire protection systems in Oklo's power plants.
Specific responsibilities may include:
- Establish fire protection requirements that inform plant design
- Develop Fire Hazard Analyses, Fire Protection Program, First Safe Shutdown Analyses, and other licensing and design documentation
- Define equipment architecture, specifications, operational modes, and performance criteria
- Lead the design of fire protection equipment
- Perform commissioning and testing of fire protection systems
- Manage projects with third party fire protection consultants
- Document work using modern tools and techniques, and compose well-written, thoughtful technical reports
Minimum Qualifications:
- Engineering education, potentially Fire Protection, Nuclear, Chemical, or Mechanical
- Experience performing design of fire protection systems in the nuclear, petroleum, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industries
- Broad familiarity with engineering principles, and having strong systems engineering and operations intuition
Competencies
We are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer that is:
- Knowledgable in nuclear facility fire protection design and operations under an NRC or DOE license
- Experienced with NFPA 804 or NFPA 850
- Experience with IBC or IFC standards
- Passionate about making advanced fission a reality
- Willing and able to learn quickly
- Willing to think differently and do things in new ways
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, highly iterative startup environment
- Excited to think creatively, critically, and reflectively about the problems they are solving while not leaning only on what has been done before
- Willing to propose novel and creative solutions to technical problems
- An excellent writer who can write in a modern active voice, so make your cover letter compelling and write it well!
- Able to communicate technical content and results verbally
