About the role

Accountabilities:

    • Collaborate with the outsourced CFO and accounting partner to prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and reporting packages.
    • Conduct periodic budget audits and analyze budget-to-actual performance across the organization, programs, and departments.
    • Support the CFO and participate in Audit and Finance Committee meetings, providing financial oversight, analysis, and reporting materials for the Board of Directors.
    • Co-lead the annual budgeting process across departments and programs, ensuring budgets align with organizational priorities and available resources.
    • Develop and monitor departmental and grant-specific budgets, providing ongoing financial oversight and variance analysis.
    • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
    • Prepare and review monthly financial reports, including AP and AR reconciliations, cash flow reporting, statement of activities, and statement of financial position.
    • Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures, including appropriate segregation of duties and controls designed to safeguard organizational assets.
    • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for the external accounting team and manage the ongoing partnership effectively.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, including applicable FASB requirements related to net asset classification.
    • Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure appropriate allocation and use of resources.
    • Co-manage grant and contract financial activities, ensuring restricted funds are used according to donor and grantor requirements, budgets are maintained, financial reports are prepared, and compliance obligations are met.
    • Coordinate and co-manage the annual independent audit and support preparation and review of required IRS filings, including Form 990.
    • Maintain compliance with applicable state charitable registration requirements and other relevant financial regulations.
    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
      • Alternatively, a relevant master’s degree or CPA experience combined with approximately 5–7 years of applicable experience.
      • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting practices, financial policies, and financial reporting.
      • Demonstrated experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
      • Experience with nonprofit accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds, grant accounting, GAAP, and applicable FASB standards.
      • Familiarity with audit processes, regulatory compliance, and nonprofit tax requirements such as Form 990.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks or comparable accounting platforms, and budgeting and financial analysis software.
      • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate financial records, and meet recurring reporting and compliance deadlines.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with executive leadership, external accounting partners, board committees, and cross-functional teams.
      • High level of integrity, sound judgment, accountability, and commitment to responsible financial stewardship.
