About the role

Accountabilities

    • Own day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the India entity, including bookkeeping, customer and vendor invoicing, expense management, and related finance processes.
    • Manage Indian statutory and regulatory compliance, including GST, TDS, payroll-related requirements, ROC, PF, professional tax, and other applicable filings.
    • Perform and improve bank, vendor, and intercompany reconciliations, with a focus on implementing systems that automatically identify mismatches and surface exceptions for review.
    • Own the month-end close process, including the close calendar, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and preparation of financial reporting packages.
    • Continuously improve close efficiency by identifying bottlenecks and reducing the time and manual effort required to complete each reporting cycle.
    • Manage AP/AR operations, including invoice processing, payment runs, collections follow-up, and employee expense administration.
    • Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, company secretaries, and other advisors to ensure timely compliance and smooth financial operations.
    • Maintain accurate, well-organized, and continuously audit-ready financial records rather than relying on year-end preparation.
    • Identify repetitive finance workflows and redesign them using AI, automation, spreadsheets, or low-code/no-code tools to reduce manual intervention.
    • Build or configure automated workflows for tasks such as transaction categorization, reconciliation matching, journal-entry preparation, vendor statement analysis, reporting, and overdue-payment alerts.
    • Use AI-assisted analysis to accelerate variance reviews, identify anomalies, summarize financial information, and support better finance decision-making.
    • Develop a finance function where the majority of routine processes are system-driven, allowing greater focus on compliance risk, financial analysis, exceptions, and business judgment.
    • Requirements

      • 2–5 years of experience in accounting, finance operations, or a related function, ideally within a startup, technology company, or fast-growing organization; SaaS experience is a strong advantage.
      • Strong working knowledge of Indian accounting practices, GST, TDS, payroll-related compliance, and statutory requirements.
      • Hands-on experience with accounting platforms such as Zoho Books, Tally, QuickBooks, or similar systems; ERP experience, including NetSuite, is a plus.
      • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a full month-end close cycle rather than simply executing individual finance tasks.
      • Strong understanding of reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP/AR, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies, understand financial variances, and identify exceptions requiring human judgment.
      • High attention to detail combined with the ability to think beyond manual execution and design more efficient, scalable processes.
      • Fluency with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar platforms for financial analysis, drafting communications, researching compliance questions, summarizing information, and developing models or workflows.
      • Experience creating or configuring automated finance workflows using spreadsheets, scripts, AI-assisted tools, or low-code/no-code platforms.
      • Familiarity with tools such as n8n, Zapier, Google Apps Script, Google Sheets, or similar automation technologies is highly desirable, or demonstrated willingness to learn them quickly.
      • Proven interest in automation and process improvement, ideally demonstrated through an example of a finance task that has previously been automated or streamlined.
      • Ability to approach recurring finance processes as systems that can be improved rather than tasks that simply need to be completed faster.
      • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively with auditors, advisors, vendors, and internal teams.
      • High degree of ownership, independence, organization, and accountability in managing a lean finance function.
      • Benefits

        • Full-time, remote opportunity based in India.
        • Significant ownership over the finance and accounting operations of an India entity.
        • Opportunity to shape and build a scalable, increasingly automated finance function.
        • Strong exposure to AI-powered finance workflows and emerging automation technologies.
        • Freedom to experiment with AI, no-code, and workflow automation tools to eliminate repetitive work.
        • Opportunity to work in a fast-growing, technology-driven environment with a strong focus on operational efficiency.
        • Broad exposure across accounting, compliance, financial reporting, AP/AR, audits, and process optimization.
        • Opportunity to develop valuable skills at the intersection of finance, AI, automation, and business operations.
        • High-impact role with the ability to directly influence how finance processes are designed and improved.
        • Flexible remote working environment with autonomy and ownership.
