About the role
Accountabilities
- Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and manage optical transport equipment, using TL1 and command-line interfaces where applicable.
- Provision, activate, test, and validate DWDM, SONET/SDH, and OTN services and circuits with a focus on accuracy and service reliability.
- Operate network management systems to support topology management, performance monitoring, fault management, and circuit administration.
- Conduct detailed end-to-end audits and tracing of optical services and circuits to verify connectivity, configuration, and operational status.
- Execute network upgrades, migrations, and cutovers while minimizing downtime and maintaining service continuity.
- Support circuit provisioning and migration activities across multi-vendor optical transport environments.
- Create, maintain, and update technical documentation covering circuits, equipment configurations, service changes, and migration plans.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and operations teams during maintenance windows, deployments, upgrades, and other network activities.
- Troubleshoot optical transport issues and communicate findings, corrective actions, and operational recommendations clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Apply strong attention to detail and structured processes to ensure network configurations, service records, and operational documentation remain accurate.
- 3–10+ years of professional experience working with optical transport technologies, with strong hands-on experience in DWDM, SONET/SDH, and OTN environments.
- Strong understanding of optical line systems, fiber optics, photonics, and telecommunications transport protocols.
- Demonstrated experience provisioning, auditing, troubleshooting, and migrating optical circuits and services.
- Familiarity with TL1, CLI-based network management, and multi-vendor optical network elements.
- Experience working with NMS platforms for topology, performance, fault, and circuit management.
- Hands-on experience with optical transport platforms from vendors such as Ciena, Huawei, Nokia, Infinera, Lucent/Alcatel-Lucent, Adva, or Nortel is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with Ciena 6500, RLS, Coredirector, 5430, 5410, Waveserver AI, or Waveserver 5 platforms is preferred.
- Experience with Huawei OSN 3800 or OSN 6800, Nokia 1830, Infinera DTN or DTNx, Lucent/Alcatel-Lucent OLS, Lambda Unite or TDM10G, Adva FSP 150 or FSP 3000, or Nortel Optera is an advantage.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues across complex optical transport environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical documentation, incident coordination, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to work accurately during maintenance windows, migrations, and time-sensitive network deployments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
