Design Engineer
About the role
Company Description
Givebutter is the most-loved nonprofit fundraising and CRM platform, empowering millions of changemakers to raise more, pay less, and give better. Nonprofits use Givebutter to replace multiple tools so they can launch fundraisers and events, use donation forms and donor management (CRM), send emails and text blasts—all in one place. Use of the Givebutter platform is completely free with a 100% transparent tip-or-fee model.
Givebutter has been certified as a Great Place to Work® every year since 2021, and is the #1 rated nonprofit software company on G2 across multiple categories.
Our mission is to empower the changemaker in all of us. We believe giving should be fun, so you’ll want to do it again, and we also believe that work should be fun, so that you’ll have the greatest impact. We are excited to hear from talented people who want to work with other talented people in making the world a butter place—and have fun along the way.
Role Description
Givebutter is hiring a Design Engineer to join our Growth pod. It's a rare role for engineers who miss designing or designers who learned to code. You'll build the marketing experiences that make nonprofits fall in love with Givebutter at first click, partnering with our design team to turn prototypes into production-grade motion, interaction, and web craft. You'll ship real code on our Astro-based marketing site, and occasionally collaborate with our 3rd-party Webflow team on cross-cutting concerns like analytics and tracking.
This isn't a content-management or no-code-only role. You'll help shape how Givebutter looks, feels, and behaves on the internet, from the motion on a hero section to the logic behind a data-driven campaign page. Our marketing site should feel like Givebutter: fun, warm, alive. Not a separate world from the product. We care about your ideas, your taste, and the code you ship.
Why join the Givebutter Engineering team?
- Democracy of code – We value equal contributions from all engineers and foster an environment of open discussion on architecture and ideas.
- Autonomy in work – We keep meetings to a minimum. Engineers have the freedom to manage their own calendars and block out uninterrupted time for focused work.
- Automated CI/CD – Our build and deployment processes are fully automated and hands-off, allowing engineers to focus on problem-solving through code.
- Mission-driven, full stop – You’ll be working with inspiring nonprofits, charities, and organizations that are making a positive impact around the world.
- Creative engineering culture – Motion, craft, and taste are engineering concerns here, not decoration. You'll have the autonomy to make the internet-facing expression of our brand feel as fun as the product does.
- AI-native workflow – We vibe code with a plan and review the output. You'll help us keep that discipline tight.
We want to hear from people who…
- Treat marketing surfaces like product surfaces — crafted, performant, interactive, and deeply intentional
- Have strong visual and interaction taste, and can translate ambitious design direction into polished frontend experiences
- Care about the details: motion curves, loading states, typography rhythm, accessibility, responsiveness, and performance
- Like working across disciplines and can comfortably collaborate with Design, Growth, Marketing, and Engineering
- Are excited by ambiguity and want to help define what modern AI-assisted marketing engineering looks like
- Use AI tools thoughtfully in their workflow, with clear judgment about where automation helps and where human craft matters
Responsibilities
- Build acquisition and marketing surfaces in our Astro-based site, where you're free from the constraints of our Webflow-hosted content pages to make things that are faster, more interactive, more personalized, and more fun
- Partner with Design to translate Figma, prototypes, and AI-generated explorations into production-grade motion and interaction, and own the motion and interaction pr
