About the role

Accountabilities:

    • Manage the property tax compliance cycle for complex personal property and centrally assessed accounts, with responsibility for return preparation, tax bill processing, and payments.
    • Prepare complex state and local property tax returns and supporting workpapers using Microsoft Excel, PowerPlan, PTMS, OneSource, or comparable systems.
    • Prepare and support utility, power generation, unitary, and multi-state property tax filings, including portfolios involving electric and gas utilities, pipelines, and renewable and conventional power assets.
    • Reconcile property tax returns with fixed asset systems and, where applicable, regulatory filings such as FERC or state commission reports.
    • Research and interpret state and local property tax laws, regulations, rules, and utility-specific guidance to support accurate compliance.
    • Monitor assessment notices, tax bills, filing requirements, and jurisdictional deadlines to ensure timely and accurate compliance.
    • Process tax bills and prepare funding requests for property tax payments while maintaining accurate documentation and records.
    • Maintain property tax calendars and update internal compliance systems throughout reporting, assessment, and payment cycles.
    • Assist with property tax appeals, amended returns, refund requests, and other specialized compliance matters, including utility-related issues.
    • Support new client implementations by establishing compliance processes and systems for utility and energy portfolios.
    • Act as a technical resource for colleagues by helping resolve client-specific and complex property tax issues.
    • Assist with training and mentoring junior team members, return reviews, special projects, client onboarding, and selected business development activities.
    • Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
      • 3–5 years of professional property tax experience, preferably involving complex or centrally assessed property.
      • Experience supporting utility, power generation, energy, or other centrally assessed property portfolios is strongly preferred.
      • Demonstrated experience with multi-state property tax filings and complex apportionment methodologies.
      • Proficiency with property tax software such as PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan, or similar platforms.
      • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work confidently with detailed financial, asset, and tax data.
      • Strong analytical skills with the ability to reconcile information across multiple systems and identify discrepancies.
      • Strong knowledge of property tax compliance processes, filing requirements, assessments, and payment cycles.
      • Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex client portfolios.
      • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
      • Ability to research and interpret tax laws, regulations, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
      • A valid driver’s license is required.
      • A proactive, dependable approach with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
