About the role
Accountabilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies aligned with organizational growth goals and market priorities.
- Identify, qualify, pursue, and capture Federal Government and DoD opportunities across targeted agencies and mission areas.
- Manage the full business development lifecycle, from opportunity identification and qualification through capture, proposal support, and contract transition.
- Shape and influence customer requirements early in the acquisition cycle to align opportunities with organizational capabilities and solutions.
- Establish and maintain trusted relationships with Federal and DoD decision-makers, acquisition professionals, industry partners, subcontractors, and prime contractors.
- Monitor government portals, notices, solicitations, and market activity daily to identify opportunities for Go/No-Go evaluation.
- Develop capture plans and support the execution of tactical, operational, and strategic opportunities.
- Research market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and strategic inflection points to identify new growth opportunities.
- Develop business cases and compelling strategic recommendations supported by market and competitive analysis.
- Support market-entry strategies and initiatives designed to expand presence across Federal, defense, and commercial markets.
- Collaborate with leadership and internal teams to develop cost-effective solutions and ensure strong customer outcomes.
- Contribute to the improvement of CRM processes, formal capture methodologies, proposal workflows, and broader business development practices.
- Maintain accurate opportunity forecasts, customer relationships, and pipeline information.
- Provide regular progress updates, including weekly reporting on business development activities, opportunities, and results.
- Exercise sound judgment when handling confidential information and sensitive customer or business data.
- Bring 10+ years of experience in business development, capture management, or sales within the Federal Government and/or Department of Defense IT market.
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of capturing both small- and large-scale Federal or DoD contracts, preferably within information technology.
- Have experience developing and executing market-entry, business development, and growth strategies.
- Possess strong knowledge of Program Objective Memorandum (POM) processes and Federal contracting vehicles such as IDIQs.
- Have experience building relationships with Federal acquisition offices and collaborating with subcontractors and prime Federal contractors.
- Demonstrate experience pursuing tactical, operational, and strategic business development opportunities.
- Bring strong analytical, problem-solving, and business judgment skills, with the ability to assess markets, competition, customer requirements, and opportunity potential.
- Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
- Demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and a results-oriented mindset, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and colleagues.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong editing, proofreading, grammar, and presentation capabilities.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with relevant business software, databases, and CRM tools.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships across management, employees, customers, partners, and external stakeholders.
- Be comfortable working with sensitive and confidential information.
- Be willing and able to travel up to 25% as required.
- Hold an active Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain and maintain one when required.
- Be physically capable of performing occasional activities such as working in confined rack spaces, kneeling, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and lifting objects of varying weights, as required by the position.
