Position summary
Nava’s Associate Counsel is for an early-career attorney who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is energized by work that directly advances the public good. You will work alongside senior counsel and cross-functional teams—supporting compliance, employment matters, and government contracting operations—while developing substantive expertise across multiple practice areas.
Our legal team operates as true business partners—collaborative, pragmatic, and invested in Nava’s mission. We value candor, intellectual curiosity, and the willingness to roll up your sleeves on any matter, large or small. The ideal candidate will bring:
- A collegial, team-first mindset with the ability to build trusted relationships across legal, HR, finance, and program management.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity—identifying practical paths forward when the law, the facts, or the business landscape are still evolving.
- A client-service orientation balanced with sound risk judgment and the confidence to advocate for the right legal position.
- Genuine enthusiasm for Nava’s mission of improving public services through technology.
What you’ll do
Government Contracts & Regulatory Compliance
- Assist with the review, negotiation, and administration of federal government contracts, subcontracts, teaming agreements, and task orders governed by the FAR, agency-specific supplements (including GSA, VA, HHS/CMS), and applicable SBA regulations
- Support compliance monitoring efforts and internal audits to ensure adherence to contract terms, applicable regulations, and agency-specific requirements
- Conduct legal research on procurement regulations, government contracting issues, and evolving agency guidance; prepare concise memoranda and recommendations for senior counsel
- Assist with reviews, terms and conditions analysis, and pre-award due diligence
Employment Law
- Provide day-to-day employment law support, including review of employment agreements, offer letters, separation agreements, and HR policies
- Assist in the investigation and resolution of employee relations matters, including EEOC charges, and internal complaint processes
- Support compliance with federal and state employment laws, leave requirements, and other employment regulations applicable to a multi-state workforce
- Partner with HR and People Operations teams to deliver practical, business-informed legal guidance
- Draft and update the playbooks and internal policies to comply with evolving laws, including state-specific labor laws
- Assist in developing and delivering training for managers on topics such as anti-harassment, wage and hour compliance
