About the role
Position Summary
As an Applications Engineer, you will provide engineering support to our sales and design teams, focusing on three-phase power, automation, and communication within low and medium voltage switchgear. You’ll apply high-level engineering concepts to solve real-world challenges and help shape custom solutions for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pre-order engineering support to the Sales and Quotations group.
- Collaborate with design engineering, mechanical, and production teams to develop innovative solutions for unique applications.
- Provide a high-level review of customer orders before handing them off to Design Engineering, making sure that order entry is correct and the information provided is complete including plans, specifications and CD&E from Sales as applicable. Provide comments as needed and point out discrepancies to ensure a smooth transition to Design Engineering.
- Provide input to the Product Engineering team for continuous improvements of the IEM product guides.
- Assist in building a library of standard design details, tools, and CAD resources for repeatable applications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, IEEE) during product and order evaluations.
- Provide ongoing technical consultation to internal sales and engineering teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in design, applications, or field service roles with a focus on power products.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Switchgear design experience.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly drawings and single line diagrams (SLD).
- Strong understanding of three-phase electric power systems, including distribution, control, protection strategies, and rotating machines considered an asset.
- Familiarity with UL and IEEE standards (UL 891, 1558, 508A; IEEE C37.20, etc.) and the National Electric Code.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; self-motivated and able to work independently.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications.
Location
This position is available in multiple locations, including Remote, Tualatin (OR), and Jacksonville (FL).
