About the role
Accountabilities:
- Configure and manage Linux security policies, including access controls, file permissions, firewalls, and privileged-user management.
- Monitor Linux logs and SIEM alerts to identify suspicious activity, anomalies, vulnerabilities, and potential security incidents.
- Apply security patches, updates, and hardening practices while ensuring systems remain aligned with internal security standards.
- Conduct security and compliance audits, vulnerability assessments, file-integrity checks, and reviews of user privileges and segregation of duties.
- Configure and maintain Linux security technologies, including iptables/UFW, SELinux/AppArmor, SSH, LDAP, encryption solutions such as LUKS, and MFA.
- Document, investigate, and support the response to security incidents, including compromised Linux environments, malware, and other threats.
- Perform forensic analysis when required to identify attack vectors, impacts, and opportunities for remediation.
- Develop resilient and secure Linux architectures using network segmentation, load balancing, granular controls, and other measures to reduce attack surfaces.
- Support advanced security testing and simulations to identify weaknesses and strengthen defensive controls.
- Develop and maintain Bash, Python, or similar scripts to automate security activities such as containment, account management, and malware remediation.
- Design and maintain ransomware prevention, detection, backup, recovery, and disaster-response strategies.
- Prepare technical reports covering security posture, incidents, vulnerabilities, compliance, and performance indicators.
- Collaborate with internal teams on security investigations, improvements, and other information-security initiatives as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technology field.
- Professional experience in information security and/or Linux environments, with experience demonstrable through formal employment or contractor documentation.
- ITIL 4 training with a minimum workload of 12 hours.
- Official ITIL 4 Foundation certification or higher.
- Linux Professional Institute LPIC-3 Security certification.
- At least one of the following certifications: ECSA (EC-Council Certified Security Analyst), CySA+ (CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst), ECIH (EC-Council Certified Incident Handler), or CSIH (Certified Specialist Incident Handler).
- Strong practical knowledge of Linux security administration, access management, hardening, firewalls, vulnerability management, logging, and security monitoring.
- Ability to investigate incidents, analyze security events, identify root causes, and recommend effective remediation measures.
- Experience with scripting and automation, particularly using Bash and/or Python, is highly relevant to the role.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently in a senior-level security environment.
