About the role

Accountabilities:

    • Read printed and electronic materials that are inaccessible to screen readers or other assistive technologies, providing clear and accurate verbal descriptions.
    • Proofread documents produced through assistive technology, checking grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and overall accuracy.
    • Interpret and describe visual information, including charts, graphs, images, and other non-verbal content, in a clear and useful manner.
    • Retrieve, organize, prepare, and file electronic and physical documents and records as requested.
    • Conduct minor research and locate information when websites, platforms, or other digital resources are inaccessible.
    • Prepare business documents, including letters, memoranda, reports, and other administrative materials using Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.
    • Provide support with timekeeping, personnel-related forms, document preparation, filing, and other general clerical activities.
    • Summarize and highlight key information from lengthy or complex documents to help the supported employee efficiently understand essential content.
    • Coordinate accessibility and administrative tasks around the employee’s work schedule and communicate consistently regarding priorities and deadlines.
    • Operate assistive technology tools, including screen readers and related accessibility solutions, as needed to facilitate effective access to information.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling personal, professional, personnel, and other sensitive information.
    • Perform additional related duties as needed while adhering to applicable federal accessibility, workplace, and confidentiality standards.
    • Requirements:

      • High school diploma or equivalent is required; an undergraduate degree is preferred.
      • Experience supporting blind or low-vision individuals is preferred, particularly in a professional, accessibility, reading-service, or administrative capacity.
      • Knowledge of techniques used to provide reading services and support individuals who are blind or have low vision.
      • Familiarity with assistive technologies used by blind individuals, including screen readers, and the ability to work effectively with accessibility tools.
      • Strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and professional language usage.
      • Demonstrated proofreading, editing, typing, keyboarding, document preparation, and information-summarization skills.
      • Ability to interpret and accurately describe visual, non-verbal, graphical, and other information that may not be accessible through assistive technology.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common Windows-based applications.
      • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple administrative tasks accurately and efficiently.
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and consistently with the supported employee and other stakeholders.
      • Ability to perform minor research, locate documents, organize records, and complete general clerical responsibilities independently.
      • Ability to understand and work with professional terminology while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
      • Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, reliability, and a demonstrated commitment to accessibility and respectful support.
      • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining consistent communication and dependable service.
      • U.S. citizenship is required because the position supports the U.S. federal government and is subject to federal requirements.
      • Must be available Monday through Friday on a fixed schedule between 7:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Pacific Time; the schedule cannot deviate from these hours.
      • Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and comply with applicable federal workplace requirements.
      • No professional license or certification is required.
      • Travel is not required, and relocation assistance is not available.
      • Benefits:

        • Hourly compensation: $17.00–$18.50 per hour.
        • Health and wellness benefits: Additional benefits valued at approximately $5.09 per hour.
        • Full-time, non-exempt employment with eligibility for overtime in accordance with applicable requirements.
        • Fully remote work arrangement with services performed during Pacific Time business hours.
        • Stable Monday–Friday schedule with no required travel.
